Lorn came on, the shift in the tones causing him to drop the phone onto the fur rug beneath his feat.

One side of his lip curled in frustration as he started to reach for it. But I came around, cautiously, looking at him with my hand outstretched, reaching for it. “May I?”

“Please,” he barked.

I flipped it over so that the screen was up and hit pause before returning it to the table. “Sorry.”

He exhaled forcefully. “I do not understand. Is it a spell? Do you capture their voices and hold to hear later?” A large portion of the anger in his tone washed away as he looked at me, a weakness in his eyes appeared that I’d never seen before. “Are you missing someone and needing to hear their voice?”

I fought a smile. “No, Kane.” My teeth were shattering even more. “T-they are artists. I just enjoy the music. S-sometimes it’s the instruments. Sometimes it’s the lyrics. But music has always been something special to me. I guess I j-j-just w-w-wanted something from home f-f-for a m-m-moment.”

I could see that he was still lost on the concept at least a little, but when my shivering became more intense, he shifted. As he had when I’d first arrived, he lifted his palm, creating a fireball in his palm, he tossed it in on the logs in the fireplace that I’d let die down, causing the fire to roar again.

Without missing a beat, he lifted me into his arms. I hadn’t even seen him move to shed his clothing, he’d moved too fast, and I was relieved by the sudden wave of heat that filtered across my skin. I hadn’t even realized that I was naked. I had been more concerned that he was about to kill me.

He stepped into the tub with me in his arms. The water wasn’t hot anymore, but it was several degrees warmer than the air in the room. But Kane reached over and drained some of the cooling water and turned the faucet back on, replacing it with a warmth my muscles eagerly soaked in.

I rested on his lap as he cupped the water and let it fall over my shoulders in an attempt to warm me. “You thought I let Mika convince me that you had a lover?”

“Mhmm.” I nodded. “You thought I was in here with a man?”

“Yes.” His voice was solemn.

“Were you going to kill me?” I swallowed hard, wondering if I really wanted to know the answer to my question.

“No!” He looked stunned.

I blinked. “No? But you were so angry!”

“I was.” He sat up more, lowering my down fulling on his lap. “I would have killed whatever man it was.”

“But you were angry with me. You thought I was conspiring with someone.”

He lowered his head, his eyes cast down, away from me. “I still would not have hurt you, little one. Any man that tries to take you from me, yes. But you? I could never. I would have…”

When he didn’t finish his sentence, I shifted, turning toward him more. “You would have what? Banished me? Sent me out into the streets?”

“Given anything.”

My breath caught, and I looked at him. His eyes had not come back up to me. He wasn’t looking at anything in particular in front of him. He was watching something in his mind. “Given anything for what? To who?”

“I would have offered you anything for you not to leave.” He leaned in placing his hands on my sides, his cheek pressing to my chest. His eyes closed and eyebrows pulled in by the pain of whatever he was envisioning running through his mind.

My arms wrapped around his strong shoulders, and I held him to me. “Kane, I’m not leaving. I’m staying. Someone would have to drag me out of here forcefully to take me from you now. And I wouldn’t go down easily.”

He let out a small chuckle. “No. I supposed you would not.”

Moving slowly, I straddled his hips so I was fully facing him, my arms still around him. His grip on me became less rigid as his fingers slid up and down my back. I kissed the top of his head. “I’m sorry.”

He jerked his head up. “You have nothing to be sorry for. I should not have reacted as strongly as I did.”

A smile creeped across my lips. “I see now.”

He tilted his head. “You see what? Could you not see before now? Were you blind?”

I knew he was being literal, and it made me giggle. “I can see just fine with my eyes. But I also see now that you do love me. That this is real.”

He blinked. “Had you doubted my words?”

I lifted a shoulder. “It’s not that I doubted you. It’s just that your reaction showed me the depths behind your words.”

His lips came crashing down on mine as his hands moved up, gripping my hair. After a kiss that made my heart beat out of order, he pulled back. “Do you feel it now?”

I smirked, reaching down and taking him in my hand. His hard cock showing me in yet another way how he felt for me. When I lifted up slightly, brushing the tip of him over me, I smiled at the moan that rolled from his chest. Lowering down, taking him in me ever so slowly, I savored the feel of him filling me and the slight pain as he gripped my hips tight.

“Auri…”

“Shhhh…” I set my finger on his lips.

Moving my lips to his before moving my finger, I moaned at the taste of him. “Just love me.”

He growled again. Only this time, there was no anger; only carnal desire. “Always.”
