pulls back. Closing my door, he rounds the front of the car and slides in on his side. The car purrs to life and he backs out of the parking space and heads for home.

The ride is silent but not in a bad way, more of contentment. He’s my everything and I know it. As I’m thankful to know I mean as much to him.

It doesn’t take long for us to pull into the driveway. I notice one of the SUVs his men use sitting in the driveway. Dean parks next to it and gets out. I follow suit and find the one who’d been driving the SUV to be Marc, one of Dean’s men. He’s also my husband’s cousin, along with another one of the men who work for Dean though I haven’t met him yet.

“Bridget, do me a favor go inside with Ian for me,” Dean says though I know it’s a command.

I nod my head and do as he requests.

Ian opens the door for me and I step inside the foyer. I’m more than ready to get upstairs to mine and Dean’s room. Have a bath, relax, and enjoy the rest of my evening with him.

I walk up the stairs and into the bedroom. I’m just about to start unbuttoning the shirt I’m wearing when all of a sudden, the click I know so well resounds in the room. Lifting my head, I furrow my brow at the sight of not only Ember but Sapphire standing there glaring at me. What has me stopping, however, is the gun aimed at me.

Not this again. It’s like déjà vu. But instead, it’s not Kean standing in front of me but these two women.

“Um, what—” I start to ask.

“Don’t you speak, bitch,” Ember snaps, waving the gun in my direction. “I’ve had it up to here with you.”

Okay. This isn’t happening.

“Ember—” I try again.

“She told you not to speak, whore,” Sapphire sneers, stepping toward me. “You just couldn’t get with the program and leave, could you?” she snaps. “It’s bad enough we can’t find Jewel and we know she wanted him for herself. But now we have to compete with you. He’s ours and you took him from us.”

What the hell is she talking about?

Dean has never been with her. I know because he’d been open with me one night where he told me about the ones he’d been with. Those being Ember and Jewel. Sapphire is simply delusional to think he’s hers.

“Sapphire, step back,” Ember orders and sends her glare my way. “Where’s Jewel?” she demands.

“I don’t know.” I’m proud of myself for not stuttering as I take a step backward, trying to get to the door I’d only just entered.

“Stop moving and don’t fuckin’ lie to me,” Ember snaps, waving the gun in her hand. “I know she has to be here. Dean never takes one woman. Where is she?”

“Honestly, I don’t know. My husband has only been with me this entire time,” I state, moving back another step.

“I told you to stop moving,” she screeches, and Sapphire steps in behind her.

“Just shoot her,” she mutters, her gaze locked on me. If looks could kill alone she’d have me dead in seconds.

Taking another step back, I’m closer to the open doorway. If I can get to it, I could run.

I’m sure Ian has heard the yelling by now.

“No, I want to know where she is so I can kill her too. She ruined everything all because she wanted to be selfish,” Ember screams and pulls the trigger.

I scream and rush from the room.

“Get her,” Ember says, sounding like a lunatic.

I dart for the stairs and I plow into Ian. Grasping hold of my arms he puts me behind him just as Sapphire comes barrelling our way. With the speed she’s going she sends all of us tumbling down the stairs.

Pain radiates through my body as I fall to the bottom.

At the bottom of the stairs, I go to get up but can’t seem to move due to the weight landing on top of me.

“You stupid, bitch,” Sapphire screams.

Gunshots are fired and Sapphire screams out in pain. She’s then ripped off my body and thrown across the room.

“You do not ever lay a hand on my wife,” Dean roars.

“Kit-Kat, get this bitch. I’ll get the other one.” I hear the command but my vision blurs. Why does this have to hurt so bad?

“You got it, boss man,” Kit-Kat says. I knew her voice since she’s around me more often.

“Come on, mo chuisle, open your eyes for me,” Dean mutters, his voice harsh and gravelly. The feel of his hands running along my cheek is soothing. I open my eyes the slightest bit but everything’s a blur. My head is hurting and well everything else.

“No. No. No. Get away from her,” Ember screeches.

“Boss?” the male voice asks.

“Let Kit-Kat deal with her,” Dean snarls. “Deal with both of them.” I don’t know what he means, but I hope it’s they’ll die for what they tried to do. “Someone call for an ambulance.”

“With pleasure,” Kit-Kat states.

“Already on it. Ian, you good?” the other guy asks again. I can only assume now it’s Marc.

“Yeah, fuck, I’m sorry I couldn’t stop it. The whore came at us, I didn’t have time to react. Fuck. It’s my fault. Sorry, boss,” Ian says, the sound of guilt thick in his voice.

“Place the blame where it needs to be, Ian,” Dean says. “That ambulance on the way, Marc?”

“Yeah, boss man, it should be here soon,” Marc confirms.

Knowing the ambulance is on the way, I close my eyes and let the pain take me under. I’m safe with my husband here. He’ll keep me safe.

After waking up in the hospital, I found I had a severe concussion and the doctors were worried about some swelling around my brain. I ended up staying there for two days and finally having enough, I begged and pleaded with Dean to find a way for me to go home. Hospital
