her calling me. All this time, I thought she was dead or hated me, but she was reaching out for help.”

This guilt is going to eat her alive.

“Mya, she never left a message. You had no way of knowing.”

She wipes at her tears, and I hold her closer. “He has to find her. She’s afraid. I heard the terror in her voice. She’s in trouble, Jase.”

“It’s okay. Finn will find her.” I turn her face to look at me and kiss her softly. “I love you. He loves you. And he’ll find her.”

She nods her head, holding back her tears as she rests it on my shoulder.

It may be a longshot, but one thing is for sure . . .

Finn doesn’t give up easily.

The End

Note from the Author

I really hope you enjoyed Jase and Mya’s story. I absolutely love them and although this story was different for me I knew I wanted to tell it. Mya’s story is tragic, and it happens all too often. I wanted this series to be about the forgotten kids. The ones who have to raise themselves and sometimes their siblings too.

As a mother, it’s hard for me to stomach that there are kids who aren’t taken care of and cherished. If I think about it too often, it cripples me. I want all kids to be treated as if they are precious because they are. I want everyone to feel safe in their homes as well as out in the world. I believe it starts with individuals, with one act of kindness.

And I want people to have hope. I’ll never stop believing there is good in this world. I know all about the bad but want the good to win. I’ll never stop that fight, and I want to encourage everyone else to do the same.

Don’t give up. Always fight for what’s right. Nothing is hopeless. I truly believe we can do better. Be kind and spread the kindness.

Thank you so much to all of my friends and family who are the good in my life, who don’t let me give up. Thank you to Harper and Lyla for lighting a fire in me when I was in my mid-twenties, for making me a mom hell-bent on making sure you grow up in a better world.

Thank you to my husband, who grounds me when I feel like I can’t take the bad, who kisses my forehead and tells me I’m amazing and to “chill out.” I love you forever and always.

Thank you, Jeanna, for your love and support. You’re way stronger than you think, and you deserve only good things. Thank you, Emma, for always being there to listen when I’m having a terrible day. Ari, thank you for your gross/amazing pep talks and keeping me going when I feel like I’m not good enough. Thank you, Elle, for being you, for being passionate about the world becoming better even when you feel hopeless. I swear to you, you’re making a difference. Every bit of good matters. Don’t let hate and bad win.

Thank you to Dena for putting up with me. Seriously. Thank you for being my editor and friend. Elizabeth and Veronique, thank you so much for making my books pretty.

Thank you to the Novelties for your fierce support and loyalty. Man, I love you all so much!

Finally, to my parents, thank you. It’s hard to put into words how grateful I am for you. You always kept going. Even when things seemed tragic and impossibly difficult, you showed me how to rise. You told me I could soar. I love you both with all my heart.

Thank you all for reading! Don’t lose hope!
