at what I offer,” the man said before flicking his hand toward Atlas. The window popped open, and he saw the long list of different wood. Some of them were terribly expensive. Toward the end of the list was the item he needed. Learn Woodworking. With a cost of 10 silver. He quickly purchased the skill and the list of abilities filled his vision.

You have learned the Woodworking ability: Create Basic Wood Rods.

You have received Woodworker’s Tool Bag.

“Wood Cutting? That’s a skill of woodworking?” Atlas asked, confused.

“Well, of course, young man. How else are you going to get the wood you need to craft with?”

“I figured Wood Cutting was its own skill, and I’d need to learn that as well.”

“I guess I can see that. But woodworking is nothing but constantly cutting and carving wood. Have to know how to cut it to work with it so it all fits under the same skill. If you need anything in the future, let me know.”

Atlas examined the skills and saw how it worked. He needed to use Wood Cutting to get the pieces of wood. Create Rough Wood Log would trim those pieces and create the rough log he needed, and the rest of the abilities turned that rough log into an item.

The store interface was still open, and he noticed Rough Wood Logs sold for a mere 8 copper a piece. Wanting to get a little of a head start, he bought 20 of them and 1 silver and 60 copper drained from him. He walked to a small room on the side of the building and activated Create Basic Wood Rod. Sliding the small carving knife from his tool bag, Atlas began furiously carving away at the chunk of wood until only a handful of thin wooden rods remained. Five Rough Logs turned into a small stack of Basic Wood Rods.

A quick chat with the woodworking trainer let him learn another ability for Create Basic Wood Wand. It only cost him 10 copper. This ability created two small wands per use, and Atlas looked at the weapons.

His next skill surprised him. It was Create Basic Wood Buttons. I guess the trade skills do need to help each other here.I bet Tailors need these.

With nothing left to make, he sold off the recently made items. None of them held any value to him, and he only made them for the experience. Inferior quality woodworking pieces also sold for low prices. The twenty rods, twelve wands, and ten staves only fetched 80 copper.

Out of wood, he bade the older man farewell and continued on his original trek in search of Master Proth. I’ve got to stop chasing squirrels and stick to the plan.

The guard was spot on with his assessment of the Master Druid’s residence. As soon as he laid eyes on it, the place practically screamed a druid lived there. Living trees formed the pillars in front of the building and a porch awning connected to them. The smell of cedar hit Atlas as soon as he stepped on the porch. The sensation confused him because he didn’t see any cedar in the construction. Brushing off the thought, he knocked on the door.

“Who is it?”

“My name is Atlas. I’m looking for Master Proth.”

A chair scraped across wood behind the door, and the plodding of footsteps drew closer. The door opened to reveal a tall and slender figure. He looked to be in his thirties, but Atlas wasn’t sure he could accurately judge the age of an elf. A robe made from the hide of a bear hung heavily from his shoulders. It looked far too heavy to wear with comfort or during combat, but Atlas spotted the bare arms and neck of the man and noticed a defined and muscular physique. His shaggy brown hair hung to his brow and the deep green eyes appraised Atlas.

“I’m Proth. What can I do for you, Atlas?”

“I have a letter of introduction from Master Longstride,” Atlas began as he fished the document from his belt pouch. He handed the paper to the druid, and the man immediately opened it and scanned the contents.

“Well, Atlas. Welcome to Lairthyn. Come in,” the druid said as he stepped aside and held the door open.

Atlas walked through with a nod and looked around. The inside looked like a log cabin. All the walls were solid logs from trees and not the standard boards seen in so many other buildings. Most of the furniture appeared made from one piece of wood, almost as if grown instead of carved.

Master Proth closed the door and motioned for him to follow. He led Atlas out of the back of the house and into a yard surrounded by a stone wall. The landscape itself was completely empty save for short grass.

“How’s Longstride?”

“Doing good as far as I can tell. I wasn’t there long before moving here, so didn’t get to know him very well.”

“I figured as much. Reborn move around at a fast pace. The successful ones advance
