the rear of the car. I raise up with the weapon and catch a round to the vest, snatching the air from my lungs as I fall backward. I check the armor for any blood and nothing. I’m okay; I just got the wind knocked out of me.

I’m good.

I pick up my shotgun and fire blindly over the hood. The assholes reply with a volley through the windows and frame of the car. A bullet finds its way through the Sedan and strikes my forearm I clutch my arm, gritting my teeth as searing pain shoots through my body. Leaning around the car, I spot two agents advancing toward me, coming to finish the job.

“Devi!” Jason raises his shotgun and splatters the first one’s head and blows the other's leg off. He falls to the ground, shrieking, staring at a stump with a horror-stricken face. I groan in pain as I force myself to my feet blood slick hands clutch my Colt and draw it from the holster.

“I think that’s all of them, Devi.”

Blood runs down my arm, trickling on to the ground. I spot an agent trying to crawl for his weapon. I fertilize the grass with the asshole’s brains. “Now, it is.”

We take cover behind the lead car. “Holy shit. You okay, Devi?”

I tear off a piece of my shirt and tie a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. “Yeah, I’m going to be fine.” I eject the mag from my 1911 and slap in another, racking the slide. Jason reloads his shotgun and pumps it. “Drake! Director Dawes! It’s time to pack it in!”

The door opens, and we both raise up with our weapons trained on the door. It’s the CIA director with a nervous smile on his face. “Officers, officers! We can make a deal instead of indulging in all this bloodshed.”

Jason’s jaw tenses with rage. “Director Dawes! I am placing you under arrest for murder and conspiracy to commit murder, along with the murder of my wife, Cala Sadir. Attempted murder of two police officers and a Federal agent. Now on your fucking knees and lie down on your stomach with your hands behind your back.” his voice sinks to strangled anger.

Dawes smirks. “Come on, officers, I got connections, and I can make you rich. All you have to do is lower your guns let me kill Drake and Munroe.”

“Let me think about it. I curve the corner of my mouth and shake my head. “I thought about it, and here is my answer.” My 45 barks and shatters his knee cap. He falls against the wall screaming as he slumps down to the porch.

We rush the porch. Jason grabs Dawes and throws him over on his stomach and puts him in cuffs. “Director James Dawes, You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in court. You have the right to talk to a lawyer for advice before we ask you any questions. You have the right to have a lawyer with you during questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you before any questioning if you wish. If you decide to answer questions now without a lawyer present, you have the right to stop answering at any time.” do you understand your rights as I have read them?”

“Bravo, Detectives, but it won’t stick.”

Jason Laughs. “Yeah, keep telling yourself that.”

I rush into the cabin securing the rooms, and I cut Drake free. “Thanks, Devi. You need to get a doctor for Munroe. She took a gutshot trying to protect me from those cunts.”

“The Calvary is on their way.”

I hear a shotgun cock behind me. “Step aside, Devi.”

“Jason, I thought I explained this to you?”

“You did, but he killed my wife. I can’t let that go. First, I’m going to kill Drake and then Director Dawes.”

“So you’re gonna help these assholes cover all this shit up?”

“My family is dead because of this asshole and his employers. Get the fuck out of my way.”

“No! I am not letting you destroy your life and career.”

“With a past like yours, you have no say in what I do with my life.”

I grip my Taser. “Jason, you haven’t done anything yet. So lower the gun before back up arrives.”

“Jason, mate, I’m sorry about your wife and kids. I really am, but killing me will only help these bastards cover everything up, and that lump of shite out there will walk free because we got nothing on him. Worst he will get out of this is being fired. So save your bullets for someone else, lad.”

Jason sneers and exhales, his grip tightening around the shotgun. “Lobos! Goddamn, it move!”

“I’m not moving. You’ll have to shoot me too.”

“Lobos, I will shoot you to shoot him if you don’t move!”

“No, you won’t. You know why? Because you’re not a murderer, Jason. You’re a cop who upholds the law.”

Munroe staggers into the doorway blood dripping from her stomach. She aims a revolver at Jason. “Drop the weapon, Sadir.”

I gesture my hand at Munroe. “Easy, Munroe. I got this.”

“Look, Lad. Munroe is bleeding out; she’s going to die if we don’t stop this.”

Sirens wail in the distance.

He wipes sweat from his brow. “Devora! Move!”

Munroe collapses. Jason turns his attention to her; I draw my Taser. The shotgun fires into the floor as the electricity constricts his muscles he falls to the floor, screaming. “Fuck you, Lobos!” he growls through his teeth.

I flip him over and cuff him. “Sorry, partner. I can’t let you throw your life away over this.”

I whip around at Drake, shoving my finger in his face. “You better give us your full fucking cooperation. You give us everything.”

“Sure thing, Lobos. Top to bottom.”

“Fuck you, Lobos.”

I kneel down next to Jason and place my hand
