on his shoulder. “We’re going to get you some help, man.”

“Ha. By help, you mean get my career taken away and throw me in a nuthouse?”

“No. No one is going to take your career. You will likely be on administrative leave pending a Psyche Eval.”

“Whatever, you sided with the piece of shit who killed my family.”

“I’m sorry, Jason. You’re my partner, and I won’t let you throw away your freedom or your career over those assholes outside or him.”

SWAT arrives, securing the area along with the EMTs stabilizing Munroe and loading her on a gurney. They wheel her into the Ambulance and leave for the hospital. SWAT rushes in detaining Drake.

My LT steps through the front door. “Lobos?” His brow furrows. “Why the hell is Detective Sadir cuffed?”

“Sir, let me talk to you outside.” We step out on to the porch. “He tried to kill Drake. I exhausted every effort to try and talk him down, so I had to resort to my Taser.”

“Shit! I ordered him to go home and not interfere with this case. I would get in your ass for being here, but if you hadn’t disobeyed your suspension, Special Agent Munroe would be dead right now.”

“She still may die with that kind of gunshot wound she took.”

“Give me a rundown of what happened here before the issue with Officer Sadir.”

“Jason called me and informed me the FBI convoy was ambushed at the airport. Munroe was wounded Drake helped her escape. When we arrived here at the scene, we found Drake and Munroe held hostage by these assholes you see lying on the ground.”

“Bullshit! She showed up here and just gunned my men down in cold blood,” Dawes cries. “Kiss your career goodbye, Lobos!”

“Officers! Get him the fuck outta here.” Two patrolmen pick him up and escort him to a squad car.

Angela walks up to me with Drake in cuffs. “Lobos, this psycho said he has something to give you.”

“What is it, Drake?”

“In my pocket, there is a key to an apartment I rented. Go there, and you will find all the evidence you will ever need to burn Dawes to the ground.”

“What will I find?”

“A Journal of my missions and the people I was ordered to kill and recordings of Dawe’s ordering me to carry out the assassinations of targets around the Bay Area. I also sent MI5 enough evidence to burn down some high ranking people within MI6.”

“So, you planned to burn them down?” Frank asks.

“No, all this hoarding of my evidence was a contingency. My gut was telling me the CIA and MI6 were going to screw me over after I objected to Conroy’s murder of Officer Sadir’s children. I also have damming evidence of a US Senator Carter Green allowing foreign agents to operate on US soil. I’ll give you this in exchange for my freedom.”

Carter’s political career is about to become the next Watergate.

“Mr. Drake, is any of that about Jason’s wife true?”

“Unfortunately, yes. I have a copy of the thumb drive in my apartment as well. It’s marked Cala Sadir’s file. I made a copy because I knew Devora would likely destroy it in an attempt to preserve her partner’s sanity and his image of his wife.”

“So where do we go from here, Devora?” he asks.

“Well, considering I’m on suspension and the FBI has taken over the case, we will hand you over to them. If Munroe recovers, she’ll be heading up the case. What happens from there is between them and MI5.”

He lowers his head. “I hope the poor lass recovers.”

I cross my arms. “There is one suspect unaccounted for. Yuriko Oyama.”

“I can tell you she’s already out of the country by now. Once she does a job, she wastes no time leaving the country.”

Damn, I guess that one is on Interpol.

Frank glances down at my arm. “We will take Drake in and get his testimony. I’ll send Ingrid out with a team of forensics to collect the evidence. He motions for the EMT’s “You get your ass to the hospital and get that arm looked at.”

“Yes, sir.”

Usually, I would try to refuse, but my arm hurts like a bastard. Drake will likely not be charged with anything due to him being drugged and brainwashed, but all the same, it was smart of him to keep an insurance policy.

After the doctor examined my arm, he determined nothing was broken; the bullet just scraped the bone on its way out. They loaded me up on Anti-biotics and Anti-inflammatory meds, and painkillers. The news shows two FBI agents escorting James Dawes out of the courthouse in handcuffs along with Senator Carter Green.

CIA Deputy Director James Dawes is being charged with treason, espionage, conspiracy to commit murder and thirty-five counts of murder, and attempted murder on a police officer and a Federal agent. If he is found guilty, Deputy Director Dawes could face life in prison or the death penalty. Dawes was found at the scene of a deadly shootout between two Tampa Police officers and agents with the Central Intelligence Agency, which left a Tampa PD Detective wounded and an FBI agent in critical condition. The police have yet to release the names of the two officers and the FBI agent involved in the shooting. Democratic Senator Carter Green is also being charged with espionage, treason, and conspiracy to commit murder. Tampa PD found tapes in David Drake’s possession that implicates the senator in colluding with Deputy Director Dawes in these crimes. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.

The door opens, and Izzy charges in throwing her arms around my neck. “Devi, are you okay.” Her voice breaks.

“Relax, it’s just a through and through it even missed the bone.”

“For god sakes, you were shot.” My sister barks.

“If I was
