Это время настолько просто, что хочется использовать его снова и снова. Лучше, однако, им не злоупотреблять. В основном оно годится в двух случаях:

а) когда вы говорите об абсолютно непреложных фактах1:

В остальных случаях рекомендуется употреблять оборот to be going to.

Многие полагают, что этот оборот всегда переводится как 'собираться'. Это предрассудок. В некоторых случаях его действительно можно перевести как 'собираться' (I am going to throw a party on Saturday), но вообще to be going to - обыкновенное будущее время, которое мы будем называть The Human Future (человеческое будущее время), сокращенно HumFut. Чтобы навсегда расстаться с мыслью, что оно означает исключительно 'собираться', посмотрите на следующие предложения:

Oh, it's half past nine! I am going to be late! Watch your steps, or you're going to fall down.
