that and make as much noise as we could toget the zombies to follow us, allowing the others to get into the cars and getaway. I wish I could see the other buildings around it though to see how wecould escape.

Now all Ineeded was a distraction from around the front of or building to enable us toget to the other building further down. Once we had done that we would cause asmuch noise as possible for the zombies to follow us and then our guys couldhopefully get to the cars and away safely and then we could meet them a fewblocks away. As to how we were going to get that few blocks I had yet to workout. Yes, my plan was weak but it was the only plan we had.

I went backinside and laid out my plan to Will, Nia, Adam and Amelia. Will didn’t like it,he wanted to go instead of me but I persuaded him that he was needed here as aleader more than me. I did however, write down my address and the directions toit from the shop where I first met Will, and made him promise that he would gothere to try to find Kelly and the kids.

Hereluctantly agreed knowing this was the best bet. Amelia agreed to go with meas she was originally going with Adam, she felt sure that there would be a wayoff that roof as there were several buildings there, all close together of thesame size, that we could maybe make our way onto.

“No, I wantto go with George, Amelia, you can stay here and help Adam. He will need you toget him out of here quickly,” Nia spoke up.

She gaveWill a no-nonsense glare that warned him not to argue.

Ameliaseemed pleased by this and reached over to hold Adam’s hand, he smiled at herand even blushed a little.

“Ok then,George, that’s my niece, you look after her like she’s your own ok? Like I knowyou will. Nia, please stay safe, your all I’ve got left,” was all he said.

Nia and Inodded at him and gave each other a small smile.

“But how dowe distract them long enough for us to get to the other building,” I asked.

“Show uswhere the building is and we can judge distance and work out how long it willtake you to get there.” Will started walking towards the fire door, Nia and Ifollowed him.

“I’ll juststay here!” Adam called, sounding frustrated but he soon perked up when Ameliabegan to fuss over him again.

We walkedout onto the fire escape and I pointed out the building with the low fireescape ladder. “See that one there? If we can go down ours really quick, thenrun to that ladder climb up it and then make a noise over there, for them tofollow us back, then you guys may be able to get out via the front?” I formedit as a question as Will was always the best at these things.

“Looksgood, but what about the crowd that are already downstairs, what if they don’tmove?” he asked.

I could seehim trying to work things out in his head.

“ThenGeorge and I will try to find a running vehicle, and drive by, beeping the hornor something and properly draw them away. Let’s say if that happens, then wewill meet in the next town over,” Nia suggested.

Will lookedbetween us, over to the other buildings and to our fellow survivors inside thestation.

“Ok, thenthat’s the plan, let’s go back inside and kit you out.” He walked in andgrabbed two empty backpacks from the kitchen.

He put twotins of food in each, not even bothering to check what they were - it’s theapocalypse we eat what we can, when we can, we can’t afford to be picky, twowater bottles each, a torch, first aid kit and then he made sure that we addeda weapon, a backup weapon and a sleeping bag.

“Just incase something goes wrong, you never know these days. Plus, it will give us allless to carry. Go get another hour’s rest, if nothing has changed by then wewill make a move, ok?” he advised us.

Nodding, both Nia and I made our way back to our sleeping bags, but this time I wentback to mine by the window, our eyes met for a few seconds and I could see thehurt and guilt in hers, I smiled meekly but there was nothing I could say toher with all of these people around so I just got into my bag and listened fora while as Will instructed everyone to start refilling their backpacks with allthey could carry but to try to keep it as fair as possible. They needed to makesure that everyone had at least a bottle of water and some tins of food andenergy bars each.

Despite oursituation, I soon fell into a dreamless sleep, before Will was urgently tuggingme awake.

“Gee, getup man, they’re downstairs, we need to get moving.”

I was upand ready in less than a minute, having slept in my clothes and shoes with mybackpack and weapons by the side of me.

The soundof glass breaking from downstairs was really loud and the moans that followedwere chilling.

“How willyou distract them, Will?” I asked.

“Withthese,” he said holding up a box of fireworks. “Even if they can’t see them inthe daylight they will be able to hear them, hopefully they will be loud enoughfor the ones downstairs to leave although I think Nia’s plan of a drive bywould be better.”

“Ok I’mready to go, Nia?” I looked at her, she looked scared and very pale, but had alook of determination on her face and I knew that she wouldn’t let me down.

“Give methree minutes to set these babies off, as soon as those things start comingthis way, you two get out of here.”

As we madeour way out, Kerys and Lewis stopped and gave ushugs, Gareth and John had gone up to our roof with Will to set off thefireworks.

We heardthe wheeeee-bang of the fireworks. “That’s our cue,”I told Nia.

We got outonto the metal fire escape to see that the plan was working, the zombies werewalking away from
