you truly believing them. He said they sound different in his head, whatever that means. David is learning how to tell the difference, too.”

“Good to know.” I paused. “What do you think about the whole clone thing?”

“I think, if Kait believes it, you should take it seriously. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it may not be. Remember, they are magic beings, and we don’t know what all of their powers are.”

I thought about it for a minute. “True. But why would they need my memories? They probably got all of them the first time they abducted me. They had this weird liquid pillar thing go through them. It could have taken them then.” All the things that had happened to me then went through my mind. They certainly had taken enough samples. I shook my head.

“Maybe they need the memories that happened after? I don’t know, Babe, but I would not discount the theory.”

Fuck. I didn’t want to hear that. I changed the subject. “Kait mentioned a while ago about going on a trip. Where do you think we should go?”

He laughed. “I haven’t thought about it. I told him to tell you it was your choice.”

I spun my braid. “He told me, but I have never been given the opportunity to make a decision like that. I’ve never thought about where I would want to go. Give me some ideas.”

“We could go anywhere you want. Earth, Shadoewynne, it’s all open. There’s the rainbow lake my dad mentioned when you first met him, if you want nature. We could go to the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, or any of the national parks, if you want to go somewhere on Earth. We could even go to a theme park if you want.”

“I’ll have to think about it. Since you’re no help.” I smiled and hit him lightly on the shoulder. He pulled me in for a kiss. The door opened and Kait came in.

Travis let me go and got out of bed. “Goodnight, Babe. Night, Kait.”

Kait clasped him on the shoulder and said, “Goodnight.”

After Travis had shut the door, Kait just looked at me for a minute. Eventually, he sighed. “Wanna tell me what that attitude was about?”

“Not particularly.” Kait glared at me. “What? I’m a girl. I’m allowed to have an attitude occasionally for no reason.”

“You are an adult, and I expect you to act like one. Why are you mad at me?”

“I’m not.”

“Bullshit. You were practically yelling at me, you mocked me on your way out, then you came back to listen at the door.”

“Fine. I’m mad, but I don’t know why, okay? You are pissing me off just by being there. I wasn’t happy when I noticed that I was basically channeling David’s feelings, then you tell me it’s a small sacrifice? I have a hard enough time controlling my own emotions right now, how am I supposed to sort out all y’all’s too? Why are David’s feelings stronger? Why is he pissed at you? I think that’s the pertinent question here.”

“I know why David is mad at me, and it’s none of your business. We need to talk about you.”

“I don’t want to talk about me, Kait. Can we change the subject?”

“It’s not going to go away if we don’t talk about it.”

“Will it go away if we do? Come on, Kait. I’d rather ignore things than talk about them. You know that.” Now that I yelled at him some, my ire was subsiding, and I noticed that he had taken his shirt off. He had been running his hand through his hair, which gave it a sexy, tousled look. He gave me a sexy half-grin.

“Your moods really are mercurial, aren’t they?”

“Stop talking and come over here.” I don’t know what had gotten into to me, but I was just going to order him around until I wasn’t so angry.

Still with the half-grin, he sauntered toward me, fingers in the waistband of his pants. He pushed the pants slowly down his waist, exposing his Adonis belt, and the dark happy trail that led down. My mouth went dry.

“Do you like what you see, Princess?”

I nodded, the power of speech having escaped me at the moment. He leaned over me, brushing his lips against mine as he said, “Too bad. Until you talk to me, you can’t touch me, and I’m not going to touch you.”

I crossed my arms and huffed at him. “Fuck you, Kait.”

“Don’t you wish?” He was laughing as he said it.

“Fine. There’s something wrong with David. I don’t know what it is, but he’s not being himself. He hasn’t been since I found him.”

He sighed as he sat down next to me. “You’re right. But it’s his to work out. All you can do is try not to reflect his moods. I’m going to work with him, and he will be fine, I promise.”

I nodded as I scooted closer to him. He held out his arm, and I put my head in his lap. I ran my fingers up and down his leg as I said, “Do you really think they have a clone of me?”

“I wouldn’t have warned you about it if I didn’t believe it. We need to be aware of the possibility, at the very least.”

I looked up at him. “I’ve talked. And, you’ve let me touch you.” I grinned at him. “Can we move on now?”

He laughed and pulled me up into a kiss. It started off as a tender, gentle kiss, but quickly grew into a heated one. I climbed into his lap without breaking lip contact then ran my hands through his hair. The room spun, and suddenly I was on my back on the bed, with Kait above me. One of his hands worked my shirt upwards while he kissed down my neck. I lifted my shoulders, and he pulled the shirt off over my head. He sucked and nibbled his way downward, pausing to push aside my bra and tease my nipples lightly with his tongue,
