and pulled from my reserves of energy.

My instinct roared inside of me as the human approached. My skin practically sizzles as I imagined us invisible, soundless.

"Fucking, Vinny. He better not be fucking around. I'm not covering for his ass," the man grumbled as he walked within a foot of us.

I waited a few extra moments to make sure he wouldn't hear us before thinking, "Now," at Chance.

He kept low and we moved swiftly from the building to the trees. I didn't stop, opting instead to lead him directly to my back up plan. I slipped through the hole I'd cut in the chain link and shifted.

"Hand her through to me," I demanded as I hunched back through and held out my arms.

Chance swiftly did as I requested and looked back just as shouts rose from the direction of the shed.

"Move it," I hissed as I straightened and turned towards club owned land. It was awkward carrying some on the same size as myself, if not bigger, but I managed as I dodged branches.

When the sounds of the forest surrounded me and the sounds of human assholes could no longer be heard, I slowed to a stop. I was gasping for breath and my mind felt like stretched rubber.

I'd never exerted my abilities the way I had tonight. Hopefully, there wouldn't be any lasting fallout that couldn't be corrected with lots of rest.

"Koroleva, wh–"

"Not now," I hissed through panting breaths. "Soon," I added when I sensed his desire to push for answers.

"Fine," he replied.

"Let's get her back to the clubhouse first," I requested as I began to move, only to be stopped.

"I'll carry her, now."

I wanted to protest his offer but knew it was the smart thing to do, so instead, I transferred the girl to his arms and we silently took off for the safety of my MC… my family.

Dorain

As we ran through the woods, my heart pounded. Worry for Koroleva filled me. She had used some of her shifter power to shield the woman we found and myself. I’d never seen a gift like hers and didn’t know how it would affect her. Koroleva looked drained, but she kept running.

When we made it to what looked like a fenced-in compound, she finally slowed her pace.

“Banshee!” Someone roared. Within seconds, we were surrounded by a group of men. Some of them were familiar. I had seen them at the club. Others were new faces.

“We’re safe,” Koroleva panted before collapsing to the ground.

“Koroleva!” I roared. Someone bent down as though they were going to pick her up, which sent jealousy and anger through me. “Mine!”

The person looked at me with a smug grin.

“Says who?” the man barked at me.

“Enough. Take the woman from his arms so he can carry Banshee. He’s not going to let any of you fuckers near his mate,” a familiar voice groaned. The group of men parted allowing a tall man to walk freely up to me.

“You got it, Prez,” someone said before taking the woman we had found from my arms. Without haste, I picked up Koroleva and cradled her in my arms.

“Koroleva,” I whispered as I brushed her hair out of her face. “Talk to me.”

“I’m fine, Chance,” Koroleva said groggily with her eyes closed.

“Dorain,” I corrected her. It wasn’t fair for my mate to not know my name. When we had first met, I told her an alias. Things were different now. I wouldn’t keep anything from her from this point forward.

“Dorain?” she repeated softly.

“Yes.”

“That’s an interesting name,” she smiled then snuggled up against my chest. “I think I liked Chance better.”

“This woman here,” I groaned before laughing.

“She’ll be fine,” the tall familiar man said. “Let’s get her inside and then you can explain a thing… or two.”

The man, who I now knew to be Roark, the MC’s president, led me through their clubhouse. When Koroleva’s scent became strong, I knew her room was nearby. I fought my instinct to walk past Roark and find my own way there.

“In here,” Roark said, opening a door and stepping off to the side. “Just throw her on the bed and then you and I can talk.”

I glared at him, but when Koroleva started to laugh, I found my anger washed away.

“Fuck you too, asshole,” Koroleva chuckled at Roark as I set her down on the bed.

“See, she’s going to be fine,” Roark reassured me.

“We can all go talk now. I’m feeling better.” Koroleva moved as though she was going to sit up. I held her shoulders down.

“No!” Roark and I agreed. Koroleva opened her eyes and gave me the death look.

“I’m a grown-ass –” she began. I crashed my lips against hers and kissed her with enough passion that I hoped would make her forget her idiotic thought of getting out of bed.

Slowly, I pulled away and nipped her bottom lip.

“I know you’re capable of taking care of yourself, but please, just rest,” I said softly, leaning my forehead down against hers. “Please?”

“Fine,” Koroleva replied in a whisper.

“Where is she!” A woman screamed and footsteps echoed throughout the hallway. Koroleva giggled.

“I’m in here, Kendra,” Koroleva said, turning her head in the direction of the open door where Roark stood. He pointed inside the room. A light tan colored woman with unicorn pajamas ran into the room. She came to a screeching halt when she saw me sitting on the bed next to Koroleva.

“Oh,” the woman said wide-eyed. “Hello.”

“Hi,” I smiled. The woman looked over her shoulder at Roark, who leaned against the doorjamb and grinned.

“The mate,” he chuckled. The woman stormed over to me and wrapped her arms around me. Two sets of growls filled the room; one of a man and the other of a woman.

“Oh, shut up you two,” the woman laughed and pulled away from me. “I’m Kendra, Roark’s mate.”

“Nice to meet you, Kendra. I’m Dorain,” I smiled.

“He’s hot,” Kendra teased Koroleva.

“Kendra,” Roark warned. Kendra rolled her eyes and waved off his words with her hand.

“Doc! Get
