A large man entered the room. He looked like Thor on steroids. The man was at least a foot taller than me so that would put him around seven and a half feet tall.
“Banshee,” the man acknowledged Koroleva. Even his voice made me jealous. He had the looks and voice that women dropped their panties for.
I looked at Koroleva. She must have sensed what I was thinking because she rolled her eyes.
“I didn’t sense your thoughts, I heard them, Dorain”, Koroleva said. Her lips never moved. She was communicating with me telepathically again.
“Are you always able to read minds?” I asked.
“Never. You’re the first”, she sighed. “And I don’t want panty-dropper Thor. I want caught-in-a-burlap-sack Dorain.”
“Hey! That wasn’t my fault,” I groaned. Kendra, Roark, and Doc looked at me like I was crazy. “Sorry. Conversation between us.”
“O-M-G! Banshee, you guys can read each other’s minds?” Kendra asked excitedly. Banshee shrugged her shoulders as though it was no big deal then smiled.
I could tell by Banshee’s body language and tone in her voice that she cared for Kendra. They seemed to share a sisterly bond. It was nice to see Koroleva happy.
“Enough,” Roark interrupted. “Doc, see to Banshee.”
“You got it, Prez,” Doc said. He stepped next to the bed and looked down at me. “You don’t have to worry about anything. Banshee’s like a little sister… who beats me up all the time.”
The man’s words had me laughing. My mate was definitely a spit-fire. I had no doubt in my mind that she would challenge a giant like him to a fight.
I stood up and stuck out my hand.
“Dorain,” I said, shaking his hand.
“Doc,” he replied. When we were done shaking hands, he sat next to Banshee on the bed.
My jealousy had dissipated by this point. Something told me I could trust this man with Koroleva. I didn’t trust many people, in fact, before Koroleva, I trusted no one; not even the Council. I had owed the Council my life, but trust wasn’t something I felt towards them. I could never explain why. I just always had a nagging feeling that something was off with them.
Looking around the room, I could tell that Koroleva was loved. They were her family. The people who would protect her at all costs.
“What are you smiling about?” Koroleva whispered. I looked down to see her looking at me.
Had I been smiling? I wondered.
“Yes,” she replied.
This mind-reading thing was going to be the death of me. I could already tell.
“Just don’t have thoughts of other women, and you won’t have to die”, Koroleva snarled at me, making me laugh.
“Yes, Dear,” I chuckled.
The next few minutes were spent with Doc looking her over. It was fascinating to watch him use his healing abilities. I had never seen a healer in action. Doc’s hand had hovered a mere inch or two above Koroleva’s body. His hands glowed a soft blue as he passed the light over Koroleva from head to toe.
“How do you feel?” Doc asked Koroleva, who was now sitting up in bed.
“So much better. Thanks, Doc,” she patted the man on his back then stood up.
“Back in bed,” Roark ordered. I didn’t want any man telling my mate what to do, but I had to agree with him. She may be healed, but she still needed rest.
“I’m fine, Roark,” she grumbled.
“Don’t care. Back in bed. You need rest.”
“Get the rest while you can,” Doc smiled.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Koroleva asked with her hands on her hips.
“Nothing. Just know that I’ll be around if you need me,” he smirked then left the room.

Banshee
Roark should have known better than to think I’d stay in bed. No way was he talking to my mate without me there. As soon as Roark and Chance – Dorain, I really did like Chance better. I giggled and rolled from the bed. Doc had fixed me right up with one of his B12 shots as I jokingly called them. He hadn’t had to help recharge me often, but when he did… whew, it was like I was flying on speed or something.
There was no possibility of me sleeping, so it would be stupid not to follow the two most important people in my life downstairs.
Slipping from my room, knowing that Roark would hear me if I made too much noise and send someone up to force me back to bed. Well, they’d try to force me and then they’d be sad because I’d have to hand their asses to them.
“So, your name is Dorain?” I heard Roark’s voice on the stairwell.
“Yes, Dorain Wesley. Not sure what my real name is because I was quite small when I was found. My entire village had been killed,” Chance explained.
Anger surged and I stormed down the stairs. I no longer cared if they knew I wasn’t in bed.
“What the hell?” I demanded.
“Koro–”
“Don’t!” I held up my hand and walked straight up to Chance. “You haven’t told me shit and you're pouring your whole life story out to him?” I jabbed a finger in Roark’s direction.
“He is your family. I was trying to alleviate his concerns,” Chance responded in shock. “Isn’t that what you’d want me to do?”
“Not if you haven’t told me! I’m your fucking mate, not him!” I stamped my foot and immediately felt ridiculous but I sucked it up and held my head high.
Chance sighed and looked between Roark and me.
“I’m… uh… not…” Words seemed to be impossible for him and I glared.
“You barely admitted your real name to me.” I was sulking. I knew it and I was sure everyone within hearing distance knew it.
“I was on an assignment, Koroleva. I couldn’t…”
“But I’m your mate!” I seethed.
“A mate I was sent to kill,” Chance snapped and then dropped his gaze to the floor. “I’m sorry. I shouldn't have said that.”
“What the fuck are you talking about?” Roark stormed up to Chance and slammed him against the wall.
“Hey! Back off,” I pushed Roark and
