- Oh, boy. You're hot! - says Jane entering the room. - You should dress more in these clothes than just for work. I thought you were staying home tonight.
I smile at Jane awkwardly and smooth my shirt.
- I've decided to go to work. This pain isn't helping much and I know I won't be able to study. - I say by making a face.
- You study too much, you know that? - she responds.
- And you study less. - I return with sarcasm. - Where were you last night?
Jane shrugged her shoulders.
- I went to the cover party and Adam Lews asked me to dance. I danced so hard, I ended up in your bed until this morning. - she explains by taking some clothes and going to the bathroom. - Then I went to New Jersey to see my brother.
- You're crazy, you know that?
- And you're a nerd! - Jane says laughing as she walks into the bathroom. - Give me five minutes and I'll be right out.
I sign by throwing a towel towards you. Jane and I worked together at the club near campus. It was Jane who had gotten the job for me and that helped me to pay for my studies, thanks to the good tips. Jane had been working there since she started her philosophy course.
- Where's Aron? - Jane screamed when the water got cold. - Wouldn't you two have dinner together tonight?
- He had to go to work. - frustrated sigh. - Looks like they had some trouble out there that only he could solve.
- Again? - Jane kept screaming from inside the bathroom. - He should shut that place down. Almost every day there are problems with some customer or supplier.
- I doubt Dad would want to close the club. - I mean outside, leaning against the door. - I've heard Aron bragging about the profit of that place.
I look at Jane as soon as she comes out of the bathroom and wears her jacket over the tiny blouse she was wearing.
- Ready? - I ask.
- Honey! I was born ready! - she responds with charm.
I'll let out a laugh and I'll follow Jane out of the dorm. We crossed the campus talking in a lively way. As usual, I'll stop by Starbucks and pick up some iced tea. We arrived at the nightclub in a very short time and began the work of cleaning the tables, even under protests from the manager, because of my state of health. Around eight o'clock at night, the first customers start showing up. We started serving drinks at the tables and on the floor. A little more than two hours later, we stopped to rest for a while and other girls replaced us. We have forty minutes to relax. I take this opportunity to throw away the countless papers with phones. The club was fuller than usual today. Jane and I sat on one of the stools in the bar, waiting for our trays to be filled with glasses of drink.
- I'm worried about Aron! - I say sighing. - Did he manage to solve what he had to solve?
- You worry too much, you know that? - Jane answers. - I don't know what you saw in that asshole, pillows. I don't think you guys match.
I'm starting to laugh in Jane's face. She didn't like Aron and kept saying that he was no good, but I didn't pay much attention to it.
- You and your implications with Aron.
Jane makes a face while drinking some of her water.
- You do? I heard rumors today about you having sex with Ryder in the broom closet. - she starts by remembering the gossip I'd already forgotten. - I know it's not true, but if you decide to break up with Aron to stay with him, you know you have my unconditional support.
I look at Jane and start laughing at her stupid observation.
- Jane, do I love Aron? - I say. - I would never change it to be part of Luluzinha's club dedicated to that piece of manure that is Ryder Taylor.
Jane laughs standing up too.
- All right! All right! Now tell me what really happened!
I swing my head from side to side.
- I woke up late and ran down the hall so I wouldn't be late. That imbecile suddenly came out of the closet, hitting the door hard on my forehead.
I tell her I already knew about the rumors brought by the mouths of Tiffany and Amanda.
- I don't know why you're a friend of those self-interested people. - she shoots with her elbows on the counter. - I thought I was enough.
I'll let out a laugh on account of the beak she makes. Jane was more than enough as far as friendship was concerned. I was the only one to make sincere friends with me and I liked her like a sister.
- You're unique! Be sure of that! - I sigh. - They're Aron's friends, not mine. I have to put up with them if I want to please you.
- You know you don't have to keep pleasing people.
- I know that! It's a curse that I have to be nice to everyone. -
