- That's perfect! - argument. - At least I'll know she's safe.
They both face me with a frown.
- I don't get it! - says Jace. - Safe from what?
- I'm not worried about what Ash might do, but if she keeps acting like she's acting, hitting on everybody, then an unscrupulous asshole will act like Aron. - I'll take a break taking a deep breath. - I don't even want to think about what might happen if Brooke decides to mess with a testosterone-filled worm that gets a refusal after she plays charm for him.
Jace looks up to me. Yes, I was dying of jealousy, but that suit was what bothered me most. I knew there were some guys who could try to fuck Brooke by force, even after she changed her mind. I knew it was my fault, so I could not let her continue to act as she was acting, just to provoke me.
- You gotta fix this shit! - coming out of nowhere, Jane pushes me into a tree. - I don't know how, but you will!
I take her by surprise, grumble by passing her hand over her shoulder and she laughs with sarcasm.
- What happened to your face?
- An accident that's not on the case.
- Tell me the name of the accident and I'll break all his bones.
She makes a shoulder face.
- tempting, but no! The important thing now is for you to fix this mess and bring my friend back to normal. - Jane says seriously. - I don't want her going out with Ash anymore. He made a bet with his friends and he's gonna hurt her.
- What's that? What's that?
- Some of Kapa's friends told me Ash isn't what she looks like. - she says in a distressing way. - He planned to get her drunk and take her to a motel, where he plans to film their sex.
Rosno looking towards Jace. Just when I wasn't sorry I punched that asshole in the face...
- I wouldn't worry about Parke! - I mean with sarcasm. - I just kicked his ass so hard, I doubt he'll get up.
Jane snitching by twisting her fingers. Your troubled expression worries me.
- Jane, what's going on that you haven't told us about yet?
- Ryder, you only have tonight to fix everything, so...
- Then what?
- Brooke said he's going to the Lounge tonight. - she shoots. - You know it's too dangerous for her to go there alone. That Luck is still waiting for a chance to get back at her. The way Brooke's upset, she might do something stupid.
That wasn't the night of my fights. We were in the middle of Wednesday. If Brooke showed up alone and Luck decided to do something with it, it'd be a big blow. Dropping a growl, I punch so hard against the tree that my fingers bleed. Getting my cell phone, I call Sal, the club's event coordinator. You asked him if he could put up a fight for me tonight. That would serve as an excuse for me to go over there and keep an eye on my sunshine.
Chapter 13
Brooke
That was a bad idea!
I think when I walk into the crowded Lounge. After a shitty week, preceded by a bad month, all I wanted was a little fun, like the first time I came to that same club. I was so excited and determined to forget about Ryder, I completely forgot about Luck's threat. Now that I had seen him on the other side of the bar, I just prayed that he wouldn't recognize me and end my night.
I knew Ryder wouldn't show up that night and I was doing it to piss him off for hitting Ash, even though I knew he deserved it. After Jane told me about his intentions for that night, I thanked Ryder for sending him to the hospital.
The looks I got from the guys on the track and at the bar made me feel stupid for choosing a pair of short shorts, a single front blouse and boots.
- Literally, that was not a good idea! - I whisper.
I was ready to turn around and get out of the club when I heard the judge announce the first fight. The name The Rock was announced and almost makes me choke. Ryder enters the ring wearing a navy blue shorts. His huge hands were covered with black stripes and his muscular chest was naked. The thick thighs bounced every time he moved from side to side, in a subtle heating. The huge arms shone, as did the rest of his body. I let out a growl when I see him waving to the girls around the cage. They start shouting adjectives and making obscene gestures at him. Ryder's eyes wander through the crowd like they're looking for someone until they find mine. He smiles at me, showing his dimples. A shiver runs through my spine when I remember the way he had kissed me several times. Widening my eyes, I let the fury flow through my body when Ryder grabs a blonde, who was just in front and kisses her.
- Damn you! - I grumble by closing my fists. - You bastard!
I close my eyes and breathe exasperatedly. I'd checked the schedule and I knew he wouldn't fight today. That apparition could only mean one thing: Jane must have told Ryder I was coming.
- That fucking traitor! He spoke his mind, that's all he could have done. - grumbling.
