“Ouch!”
My eyes were so dry they felt extremely scratchy. I needed moisture fast. Going to the shower I turned on the hot water and laughed out in surprise when all three shower heads began to shoot water. I know my priority should be getting my stuff and getting out of here, but this shower looked too good to pass up. Plus, I really needed the steam for my eyes.
After going to the door and locking it, I stripped out of this horrible maid’s uniform that I wanted to burn. There was a golden stand next to the shower that held a basket of snow white towels and washcloths. I grabbed a washcloth and then stepped in under the hot water.
My sigh was long and loud. There was something very ironic to feeling this good in a place I had technically been taken prisoner. But at this moment, with the hot water beating down in a massaging soothing pattern, and the steam coming up to moisturize my dry eyes, I just didn’t care. I let the water stream over me from the top of my head, to the sole of my feet.
However, as much as I wanted to, I didn’t linger. I washed my hair with a brand new bottle of shampoo that was feminine. It smelled like lavender, which was my favorite scent. And then a thought hit me.
Oh! Wow, he had a woman and I had just opened her bottle of shampoo.
I felt bad as I washed my hair with it. For two reasons, one, this stuff was amazing, and it left my hair feeling really good—clean yet soft, but it belong to another woman. Two, her man had gotten inappropriate with me twice; the other night at Shugga’s Place, and again last night in the basement. I ain’t gon’ lie and pretend I didn’t have feelings about that. My mama used to always say, some men were just dogs.
Next to the bottle of lavender shampoo was a bottle of lavender body wash that was also brand new. I hesitated for only a moment before I cracked the seal on that as well. I know this was bad. Here it was, I… who caused her boyfriend or husband to cheat. And now I was taking liberties with her grooming products which were amazing.
I got a closer look at the stuff. I wanted to purchase both the shampoo and the body wash later. It looked very expensive though. I wondered if Walmart carried it. By the time I was done my eyes felt a hundred-percent better. Although I knew from experience they were still going to be red and irritated.
As I dried off with one of the fluffy towels, I looked at myself in the mirror. Oh yeah, my eyes were blood shot red and it contrasted sharply with my pupils, causing them to appear purple. Oh goodness! With them being this irritated, there was no way I could put another pair of contacts in right now.
“Great!”
Now what was I going to do? I had already lost my wig. If I had my guess it was probably still downstairs in the basement. And now, no covering for my eyes. My grandfather said that my eyes were not normal and that I always needed to keep them covered. I wish I had a pair of shades.
On the sink was a fancy glass jar of lavender body-butter. It was from the same company as the amazing shampoo and body-wash. And yes, the seal was still on it too.
Don’t do it Yasmin! You done already violated this woman’s territory big time!
But how was I going to know if I wanted to purchase the moisturizer as well? I picked up the jar making up my mind. I was getting ready to be out of here anyway. It wasn’t like I was going to run into her.
“Oh yes!”
The butter was just wonderful, and it left my skin moisturized without being too shiny, and also left it soft to the touch. Not to mention it smelled edible. Okay, I was definitely purchasing the body-butter as well. When I was done, I got dressed in my Bambi t-shirt and my pa-pa’s overalls.
Although there was a new toothbrush on the sink, I used my own to brush my teeth. I had taken advantage enough. Then I brushed my hair into a ponytail, braided it, rolled it up in a ball at the back of my head, and then put my baseball cap on, pulling it down so that it cast my eyes in a shadow. This will just have to do.
I tossed the maid’s uniform and my dried out contact lenses into the trash that sat by the sink, and then slid my feet into my flats. It was time to get out of here. After putting on my backpack, I quickly and quietly left out of the bathroom and walked back through the closet. As I crossed the bedroom I didn’t dare look at the bed. Shame on Gabriel, putting me in his bed and he had a woman. She was probably out of town or something.
When I got to the door I paused, afraid of what I was going to see on the other side. Would a guard be standing there? Oh, my goodness the guard! Visions of Gabriel in a full rage hitting him and sending him flying across the room came back to me.
He wasn’t human! I had to get out of here!
Easing the door open I exhaled. There was no one standing there. I wondered where Gabriel was as I made my way down the stairs. This time I took the front stairs. I didn’t have much luck with the back ones. The house was completely quiet. The closer I got to the lower level, the better I felt. Could it be this easy? Could I just walk out of here?
By the time I got to the last set of stairs, the ones that faced the front door, my hopes had
