pretty bare except for a few cleaning supplies in a corner. However, the three of us fit in there.

His eyes land on Christina and frowns. “I have a feeling you are the one to blame here?” His nose wrinkles and he shakes his head. “Every time you’re involved, something bad seems to happen with my sister. Why can’t you just stay away?”

To my horror, she just casts her eyes down and rubs her arms with her hands. “I’m sorry. I don’t mean trouble.”

“Just wait one second here.” I touch her arm. “You don’t let him talk to you like that. You haven’t done anything wrong and don’t deserve this.” I turn my focus on him. “And you. This was all me. She tried to talk me out of it multiple times. If anything, you should be mad at me for dragging her into this.” Take that big brother.

“Fine, I’m mad at you then.” He listens at the door. “Do you know how much trouble you’ll be in? Both of you.”

This doesn’t end like this. “Maybe we wouldn’t be in this situation if you would have been a little bit more of my advocate.” I take a step toward him. “Did you even try to ask the council if I could come and watch?”

“I’m not sure I agree with you.” His eyes soften. “And no, you shouldn’t be in this mess.”

“Yeah, but this could have helped me.” Why doesn’t anyone care about my opinion? Hell, I’m eighteen. I’m still young, so when do my opinions start counting? “Doesn’t that mean something?”

“Look, I’m sorry.” He tilts his head back. “This is a historic event and I didn’t think about how it would feel to be left out and think it could help to watch. But it still doesn’t change the fact that you could get hurt and that you aren’t supposed to be here.”

A loud crash comes from outside followed by a scream. The alarm begins ringing throughout the prison.

“You both need to stay hidden.” He glances at the door and then back at us. “I’ll come back for you when it’s done.” Then, he turns and leaves, heading towards the commotion.

Something big is going down and it doesn’t sound planned. I reach out and catch the door before it can shut.

We both run through the huge room, running after Charlie and stop when we get right in the middle.

Dark, black swirls are coming up everywhere.

Holy shit. Demons.

I grab Christina’s arm. We have to hide. I just have no clue where.

But as usual, Christina tugs me towards an open door. We rush into a cell block that has a tv on the wall with a table and a few chairs.

However, that's not what we care about right now. Our focus is on what’s going outside the room.

The alarm continues to ring, and a guard rushes into the room. The closest demon to him rushes him and disappears into the guard’s body. His arms flail and his legs give out, causing him to crumble on the floor.

Holy shit. Did he get possessed? I’ve heard of it happening, but it’s different seeing it in person.

A few of the reapers up front, closest to him take a few steps back.

Yeah, I don't blame them one bit.

A dark swirl of black appears next to the possessed guard, blowing the smell of brimstone around the room. The black form shifts into a head then body making the demon appear as a person with dark black hair and piercing blue eyes. He’s muscular and leans over the man on the ground who is attempting to fight the demon inside him. “You better get control over that human soon.”

At least the human is putting up a fight. Maybe these demons aren’t strong. We need something in our favor. I don't understand what's going on, but I must find Charlie. We need to get out of here. Something is off.

Christina’s watching the whole thing and rubbing her fingers together while the other reapers out in the huge room take in the scene unfolding in front of them.

The black-haired demon stands straight and turns. It’s weird because his voice is out loud and echoes in our heads. An inky blackness follows his every move. “We have a lot of work to do and there are reapers all around us.”

As if on cue, the body stops shaking and the man stands up. “Yes, sir. I’m on it.”

The demon in charge turns to the other hovering black masses. “Now is the time. Take your places.”

The time for what? I want to ask the questions, but I can’t. One of them may hear us.

The other reapers glance at one or another.

One by one, the demons disappear from the room and a few seconds later the alarm turns off.

I know that can’t be the end. We’re looking around the cell block, looking at all the cell doors. How many are there? How many prisoners are in each room? I see over a dozen reapers in this block alone, and none of them are even looking at us.

The silence is almost petrifying. I sure hope the council knew the demons were going to show up. At the moment, we’re safe from them. “What do you think is going on?” Maybe Christina will have the answer.

“I have no clue.” She takes a few steps back. “But if what we just saw was any indication, the guards may be getting possessed.”

“Someone needs to find Frank.” A male reaper in the back calls out.

And then, a loud, metallic click fills the room, and the sound of several cell doors swing open.

“Oh hell no.” Brad’s tone is faint but panicked. “This is not how this was supposed to happen.”

“Something isn't right.” Christina bites her lip. “Come on. We have to help them.”

We step out in the huge room and look down at the various prison cell blocks that serves as their personal living quarters. The doors are opened as far down as we can see. The
