you in danger.”

“I love you, Liam. We’re in this together now.” Cora gave him a radiant smile.

Liam leaned down until their heads were touching. “What did I ever do to deserve you?”

“You loved me for me. You care for your family and friends. You are always putting others first.”

“Well, when you put it like that I do sound pretty awesome.”

“Okay, Mr. Awesome let's pack and go see your sister.”

Liam pulled away, and looked at the clock. “It’s getting late. We should probably head out in the morning.”

“And have you worry about her all night, and not sleep and fall asleep at the wheel in the morning and kill us? I think not. Let’s go.”

“You do know I can stay up for days without sleep and still be able to drive. So, you don’t have to worry about me falling asleep at the wheel.” She was so cute when she worried about him.

“It doesn’t change the fact you would worry about her all night and toss and turn, and keep me up.”

“Heaven forbid you don’t get your beauty rest, Amazon.”

Cora scowled at Liam before turning to her bag to pack. Most had already been packed since she had wanted to leave for a while. This just helped expedite things.

“Thank you, for coming with me,” Liam said after they had been packing in silence for a few minutes.

Cora paused in her packing to look at him and smile. “I’m just glad you finally told me.”

“All that wasted time.” Liam shook his head.

“I wouldn’t say wasted. What’s the saying ‘time and distance make the heart grow fonder.’ When we got together, we went full speed ahead and never looked back. Us breaking up gave us both a chance to really think if this was what we wanted.”

“And is it?”

“It is,” Cora told him without hesitation.

Liam smiled and turned but not before Cora saw a glistening in Liam’s eye. Her big strong man had the biggest heart and was really a softy. Not that she would tell anyone. He had a reputation to maintain.

“Ready?” He asked twenty minutes later throwing his duffel over his shoulder.

Cora zipped up her backpack. “I just need my laptop, and I am good to go.”

“Are you sure you can’t wait for morning?” Hannah asked, as they were saying their goodbyes.

“No, I need to get back into town. An emergency came up, and I have to leave.” Since everyone but a few knew about Liam’s sister and he didn’t want to make a deal out of it, they told everyone Cora had the emergency. It was an easier explanation and he didn’t have to go into detail of what happened to his sister.

“Please drive safe.” Hannah always worried about others.

“We’ll be fine,” Liam told her as he threw their bags in the back. “Ready?” He asked Cora.

Cora nodded and hugged Hannah one last time. “I’ll see you soon. I’ll text you when we get in.” Cora would text Hannah when they arrived in town, just so she didn’t worry.

“Are you okay there will be a little longer delay before you can sleep in your own bed?” Liam asked Cora once they were on the main road.

“I’ll survive. I’m sure you’ll make it up to me later.” She said with a wink.

The thought of Cora in her bed, no their bed, he liked the sound of that, had his cock hardening. So not the right time or place right now. Liam reached over and grabbed Cora’s hand that had been on her lap and pulled it to his lips and kissed it. “Soon, Amazon. I promise.”

Cora smiled at him then turned to face the windshield as a set of headlights blinded her. She held up her free hand over her eyes trying to cut out the glare. Did the guy have his high beams on or something? The car suddenly veered into their lane. “Liam,” Cora cried out just before the car crashed into the front of them.  Cora felt the jarring impact as their car crumpled and was pushed off the road into the embankment. Her head whipped around and hit the window, and she heard the breaking of glass. Just as quickly as it happened, it was over. Cora rolled her head back on the headrest. Her neck hurt. Her eyes darted to her left to see Liam, but her vision was blurry, and it appeared that Liam was lying awkwardly over the wheel. A wheel that looked to be still very much intact minus its awkward angle. Why hadn’t the airbag gone off?

“Liam,” she tried to say, but her voice wasn’t working right. They needed help. Her phone was in her pocket. If she could just get to it, she could call for help. They weren’t that far from Aaron’s property. They could come quickly to their aid. Cora tried to force her limbs to work when she saw a person walk up to her side of the car. Was that the person who had hit them? Or someone who had been driving by? Cora tried to force her eyes to focus on the person, but all she could see was that it was a male in white.

“Hola, mi querido.” The man said in a warm seductive voice.

Cora couldn’t see him through the blurriness of her vision, but she knew that voice. It was one she had been ignoring for a while. A price she was sure she was about to pay for. She guessed Alejandro hadn’t left like Aaron had thought. They were fucked. “Take her,” he said to someone next to him. Cora tried to struggle to get up, but her limbs wouldn’t cooperate. A meaty fist slammed into the side of her face. “I have big plans for you, mi querido. No one fucks with my money and business and walks away.” She heard at a great distance, then everything went dark.

Chapter Nineteen

“Sunshine,” Liam heard his voice from a great distance. Who was calling out to him? “Wake the hell up.” He heard before something
