Me; I’m at a friends house? Are you actually home!?
Anya; yup. Should have been home yesterday for ur birthday but apparently trains were strinkin’ x
I smiled to myself and found myself walking towards the sink and emptying my cup of tea down it. It had been so long since I’d seen her. I’d missed her so much… I ran my hand over the screen on my phone and went to start typing when it buzzed again.
Anya; so? Where r u? I need to meet my other friend too… ;) x
I rolled my eyes and heard feet pattering behind me.
“You look happy?” Jay smiled softly at me and I nodded “it fits well?” He gestures towards my outfit and I smirked.
“It does thank you.” I tucked my hair behind my ear and looked down at my phone ringing. I placed it to my ear.
“Happy Belated Birthday baby!” She chirped. I laughed softly and walked towards the large window again.
“Why thank you Anya!” I reached around my waist and held my arm.
“So cmon spill where are you? I can meet you anywhere you like?” I couldn’t tell her where I was. I still felt a little uncomfortable trying to explain how I knew them all and what they all were and how they had so much money when actually I had no fucking idea how either.
“Shall I meet you at home?” Excitement grew in the pit of my stomach and I heard her take a deep breath.
“Yes!”
“Okay give me 10 minutes.”
“Fine.” The phone went dead as I laughed and placed my phone in my pocket. I couldn’t wait to see her again.
“You leaving?” Jays eyes wandered over me and I nodded, grabbing my shoes from the front door.
“Yup, Tell Haz I’ll call him later.” I tiptoed to plant a kiss on Jays cheek and hugged him swiftly.
“Hang on,” he stumbled on his words and held my arm softly “Why the rush where are you going?” His brow furrowed and I grinned widely.
“My other friend is back from the North I haven’t seen her in a long time.” He gave me a little nod and released my arm.
“Have fun.” His stubble brushed my hand as I squeezed his face. His eyes danced playfully. I was still struggling to get my head around the change in our relationship. There was a point in time he made my skin crawl. I grabbed my car keys and made way for home.
I didn’t get a chance to text or say goodbye to Haz, I was far too excited to see my girl again and as I walked through the little alleyway behind my house I spotted her. She was dressed in jeans and a huge parka coat. I smiled to myself as I examined her from a distance. She looked just as beautiful, if not more so than the day she left for Uni. I made my way towards her slowly and watched her run towards me. I wrapped my arms around her and squeezed tightly. Life here had never been in her master plans. She’d always desperately wanted to travel, which is why I couldn’t get my head around the fact that she wanted to come home this year for Christmas.
“God Av you look amazing!” She tugged on my hoodie and I laughed. The sarcasm in her voice was apparent as she reached to tuck her natural brown hair behind her ear. It was as straight as a dye and had never been coloured, only once. Which was completely by accident during a dance show. ‘Semi permanent’ dye lasted 3 years until she grew it out. I remembered how angry she’d been. I chuckled at the thought and pulled away from her hug.
“You look amazing too.” I returned her compliment, only mine was nothing but the truth. Her brilliant blue eyes were gleaming and it was evident that she’d lost some weight. I glanced at her outfit and smirked, reaching for her Gucci belt. “Somebody’s doing well?” I wriggled my brows at her and heard a dirty cackle escape her lips.
“It was a gift and anyway you can talk look at that rock!” She gripped my hand and her eyes widened. The floor could have swallowed me up at this point. How do I explain who they are? What they do or where the ring even came from? I ushered her closer towards my front door before I let us through it. The sea breeze in winter was bitter and my face was beginning to smart.
“C’mon, let’s talk more inside,” she nodded and held my hand in hers. The beauty of our friendship was this. No matter how long it had been between visits she was always the same. She never changed and neither did our friendship.
We both lay on the sofa in my rather warm and cozy living room. She chatted about her plans once she’d finished university next summer. She’d been offered a job working for a logistics company, it was an offer she couldn’t really turn down while she was saving to go on her travels. The only thing that was putting her off was the fact she would have to move back down here. This brought up the memories of her and her older brothers being ridiculously mean to us even when we were small. I frowned and watched as she scrunched her face up too.
“You know what they’re both like, fucking idiots.” She rolled her eyes and I smirked to myself.
“Yup.” It was true. All they had ever been growing up was trouble. Anya was always well behaved and always studied hard. The polar opposite of her were her two elder brothers. I closed my eyes as I got comfortable on the sofa.
“So are you gonna introduce me to your new friends?” She grinned and I blushed almost instantly. My eyes opened slightly as I peered towards her.
“I’ll have to think about it?” I grimaced as she kicked my leg. Her flawless face was now deep set with
