How to install and use a Scanner in Windows 10
By connecting your Scanner to your PC or by adding a new scanner to the home network of your PC, you can normally start scanning your pictures and documents. If the scanner fails to install automatically, you can make it work by following the procedures below.
Install or add a local Scanner
In some cases, all that you need to do to set up your scanner is to connect the scanner to your computer. There is always a USB port on your computer where the USB cable from the scanner can be plugged. Once the Scanner has been plugged, turn on the scanner. If this method fails, then you can follow the method below to do this manually;
- Click Start , tap Settings , select Devices and click Printers & scanners .
- Click Add a printer or scanner . Wait for the system to locate a scanner that is nearby, then select the scanner that you want to use, and click Add device .
If the scanner is included in an All-In-One printer or a multifunction, you may only be able to see the name of the printer. If you want to see your scanner, under Printers & scanners , choose your installed printer, click Manage , and then select your scanner.
Install or add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth scanner
If you have powered on and connected your scanner to the network, Windows 10 should be able to find the scanner automatically. The available scanners can include all scanners on a network, like wireless scanner and Bluetooth or scanners that are attached to another device and shared on the network. See how to do this manually below;
- Click Start , tap Settings , select Devices and click Printers & scanners.
- Click Add a printer or scanner . Wait for the system to locate a scanner that is nearby, then select the scanner that you want to use, and click Add device .
If you cannot find your scanner on the list, choose The printer that I want isn't listed , and then add the printer manually by following the instructions on the screen.
Notes:
If you are in possession of a new wireless scanner that you have not added to the home network, simply go through the instructions that came with your scanner and check the website of the Scanner’s manufacturer to learn more about the scanner and access latest software for the scanner.
If the scanner is included in an All-In-One printer or a multifunction, you may only be able to see the name of the printer. If you want to see your scanner, under Printers & scanners , choose your installed printer, click Manage , and then select your scanner.
Some Scanners can only be installed with the permission of the PC’s administrator.
