“Why don’t you feel like you can talk about the abuse with us?”
“Duh, Kait. I don’t think I have to explain myself to you.”
“Fine. Who would you be comfortable talking to?”
“I don’t know. I haven’t really thought about it. I’m not going to be comfortable with a stranger, and I don’t want to talk to someone I know either.”
“I have a friend that is a licensed therapist. Why don’t you meet with her and then go from there? You don’t have to get into anything deep until you’re ready.”
“And how are we going to do that, Kait? You don’t want us leaving the house.”
“She can come here.”
“Where you and David can hear everything I’m thinking about? No, thank you. That would be the same as talking to you directly.”
“Just think about it, okay? I offered her services to David as well.”
“Fine, I’ll think about it.” He came over and pulled me into a hug. I rested my head on his chest.
“I just want to you to be healthy in both mind and body.”
“I know, Kait. Can you please drop it?” I was speaking into his chest, since he hadn’t let me go yet.
He sighed as he kissed the top of my head. “Okay. So, what’s your plan for today?”
“Don’t know. What is there to do here?”
“Well, there’s a gaming system set up in the family room, and you could always watch movies.”
“Uh, huh. So, nothing but waste time. Got it.” He chuckled as he squeezed me tighter for a second before letting me go. He leaned in, putting his lips right next to my ear.
“I can think of better things to waste time than with movies and games, Princess.” His lips brushed my ear, then moved down to my neck, softly skimming over the skin there. My heart raced as tingles moved through my body. I moved into him, pressing his lips against me. His arms snaked back around me as he moved my shirt to kiss down my body. A hard knock on the door interrupted us. I groaned as he placed one last kiss on my shoulder before releasing me to open the door.
David was leaning against the doorjamb. “There’s a messenger here, he says it’s urgent, and honestly, it looks like it is. He’s a mess.”
Kait called over his shoulder to me on his way out the door, “Stay here while I go check it out. I’ll let you know when to come in.”
I nodded, too breathless to speak. David chuckled as he closed the door and prowled toward me. The way he moved made my breath catch. He was obviously planning something. I think I was going to like whatever it was. But I wasn’t one to give in easily. So, I darted away from him, putting the couch between us. He growled as he moved to cut me off. His grey eyes were darkening with desire, and a slow smirk crept onto his mouth. I bit my lower lip as I contemplated how to stay out of his reach. He pounced over the couch, landing in front of me, blocking me in the corner. He came even closer, until my hardened nipples were brushing his chest.
“Do you like to play hard to get?”
I nodded, still not trusting my voice.
“I don’t think you were trying all that hard, Sugar.”
I shook my head.
He picked me up, so I wrapped my legs around his waist. I could feel exactly how much he liked that chase pressing against my core. Without thought, I straightened up, just a bit, rubbing my core against him. He took my mouth, hard, stepping forward to push my back against the wall. I moaned and moved my hips against him. Tangling his fingers in my hair, he guided my head, as he swept all thoughts away with his tongue. He made a small sound against my mouth as my hips picked up speed. I grabbed his hair and moved his mouth to my neck. He bit lightly, causing me to gasp and push harder against him. He called out my name and I came apart.
We were still in the same position, attempting to catch our breath, when we heard Kait call for us in our minds. There was a bit of laughter in his mind’s voice as he said, “If you two are done, you need to join us in the family room, please.”
I groaned. Having two mind readers in the same house was not easy.
Chapter 14
We stopped at David’s room so he could change, and I waited for him in the hallway. When we walked into the family room, I was sheepish while David sauntered. There was a jaunty smile on his face. He was enjoying this. I shook my head as Kait watched him with a bemused expression. Travis, of course, had no idea what was going on, so he just smiled at me.
Kait shook his head. “Okay, the scout has left. He left his written report there, Princess. I suggest you start organizing your notes so you can collate them as they come in. If you get behind, you will have a hard time catching up.”
“Fine.“ I gathered up the pages of the hand-written report. I squinted at it. At first glance, the writing looked like nothing more than scribbles. I rubbed my eyes. This wasn’t going to be easy, especially if all the scouts had such horrendous handwriting.
I glared mildly at Kait as I left the room to get the computer Kait loaned me. Once I retrieved it, I decided it was better to go to my room. I sat on the bed with the report and the computer. After settling into a comfortable position with the pillows behind me, I attempted to decipher the chicken scratch.
David came in and tapped me on the shoulder. I glanced up with bleary eyes.
He smiled down at me. “Are you
