was just another chick. This whole thing was confusing as fuck to me. I had no idea why I was drawn to him but I was. I didn’t want to stay away yet I just walked out on him and it was taking everything in me, not to go back in there and sit back down.

Before I could, though, my phone started to ring. Probably Amy wondering where I was. Taking it out of my pocket, I frowned not seeing her number. Maybe she was calling from Eddy’s?

“Hello?”

“Daughter, did you really thing you could hide from me? You are as stupid as your mother is.” My blood went cold at the sound of my father’s voice. I looked back at the diner.

“What do you want?”

“It’s time to come back home, Kaitlyn. Stop fucking around.”

“No, I won’t and you can’t make me.”

“Like fucking hell I can’t. We both know the lengths I would go to, Kaitlyn. I am not fucking around. If you cost me money, you will be paying with your life. So you can either come home willingly or by force. The choice is yours. If you aren’t home by the weekend, I will be coming after you.” Before I could argue, the line went dead.

“Kaitlyn?” I looked from my phone to Kane.

“He’s coming after me. He knows where I am. I have to leave.”

“Like hell you do. You aren’t going anywhere.”

“Don’t underestimate him, you don’t know what he is capable of.”

“Sweetheart, if he can do anything worse than me, I will be impressed but I have seen some of the worst people you can imagine. Even the devil himself wouldn’t worry me.”

“Not everyone is you, Kane!” I could feel my body shaking. From fear? Anger? I wasn’t sure but I could feel myself beginning to lose it. I was about to get in my car though when Kane wrapped his arms around me, pulling me against him.

“It’s gonna be okay, Kaitlyn, I will make sure of that.” Closing my eyes, my body still tense against him as I laid my head on his chest, I didn’t want to relax. If I relaxed then I would let my guard down and I couldn’t do that.

“I can’t let anyone else get hurt because of me. I won’t have it.”

“No one is gonna get hurt. I’ve got you.” I opened my eyes, looking up at him. His words were genuine but could I really put my trust in him? I barely knew the guy. Why would he care if I lived or died? There were other women who would fall over themselves to get a piece of the mysterious biker god standing in front of me. I couldn’t help but think though, it was me in his arms, not them. When his eyes met mine, I felt myself beginning to calm down.

“I’m sorry. I don’t know what is wrong with me. I’m not usually this crazy.”

“Oh, I am sure you are, Kait, I told you. It’s just the depth that varies not if someone is normal or not.” He winked at me and I went to shove him away from me. He kept his arms tight around me though so I couldn’t move. With a small sigh, I closed my eyes and laid my head back against his chest. I had to figure out what I was gonna do next. I had a feeling though, no matter what my next move was, I wouldn’t be doing it alone. I just had to warn Amy. Everyone close to me was in danger of becoming collateral damage. Even the ones who thought they were indestructible.

After a while, Kane broke the silence. “Are you still hungry?” Shaking my head, I pulled back.

“No, I’m fine. I think I am just gonna head home.” I didn’t want to leave him but I had already made a mess of myself up to this point, the more time I spent with him, I was going to make that worse.

“Need me to come with you?”

“You go. I am sure you have better things to be doing.”

“Not the point.”

“Go, I will be fine. My father is a man of his word. If he says he is giving me until the end of the weekend then I am fine until Monday morning. I have time to figure out what I am gonna do.” He ran a hand over his jaw and looked away for a minute.

“I really don’t like this, Kaitlyn.”

“You don’t have to, Kane, I will be fine. I have your number. I will call you if I feel uneasy or need help. I promise.” I could see on his face that he was torn. I placed my hand on his cheek. “What if I check in later? If you are free then you can stop by and hang out. Not sure if Amy will be there or not but it’ll be fine.”

“Okay fine, but if I don’t hear from you then I am coming around.”

“Deal, now go before you change your mind and end up following me home anyway.”

“Now that’s not a bad idea.”

“Kane, GO!”

“Fine! Bossy much?” I couldn’t help but grin. Taking my keys out of my pocket, I unlocked my car. Opening the door for me, he stepped back, letting me pass. I got in and started up the car as he shut the door. Reversing out of my parking spot, he waited until I left before moving over to his motorcycle.  I felt bad, I knew he was just trying to look out for me, but he had more important things to worry about. I would be fine. He could see me later...

(Kane)

I watched Kaitlyn leave and it took everything in me not to follow after her. My club was my family though and as Vice Pres, I needed to be there with Blaze helping sort this shit out. He and Decoder had been digging and following leads so they were able to find where the trail started. With these people though,
