She`s right, Sam is still pissed at Max and the few times they`ve run into each other since that happened he was not shy about making his displeasure known. Ugh, I`m so tired of all this drama.
„I`ll need to find a new job soon, but I don`t think I want to do the whole assistant thing anymore.”
„What do you want to do then?”
I shrug because that`s another question I don`t know the answer to. God, I`m such a mess.
„Maybe you could do something cooking related. You have so much talent, Soph; it`s a shame to let it go to waste.”
„I don`t want to work in a restaurant; I`m not disciplined enough for that. Maybe I could do the vlog thing, but I`m not sure I could make enough to live on.”
„Well sure, you could make a vlog, but I was thinking more in the lines of opening a sort of home-based bakery. I mean, these brownies are to die for, and so are your cupcakes, cookies, and all the other yummy things you bake. ”
Hm, I actually like the sound of that. I love to cook and bake, so why wouldn`t I make some money out of it.
„That`s a great idea, G. I could sell my food online.”
„Yeah, you totally could.”
For the first time in weeks, I feel a glimmer of excitement and hope. My personal life is a mess, but maybe I can finally get some direction in my career.
I never minded the whole personal assistant thing, but it`s not my dream job, not even close. But if I could earn a living from cooking, not in a restaurant kitchen but the comfort of my own home, that would be heaven.
„Did I mention how much I love you lately, G?”
„Nope, and may I just say you`re slipping on the whole giving affection front.”
„Sorry, honey. I love you, Gwendolyn Marie.”
„You just had to go there; you just had to use my full name, didn`t you.”
I grin and blow her a kiss. I really do love her cranky ass. Who needs men, anyway?
Chapter 16
Sophie
„The fuckboy gave you really good seats.”
I look at my brother, eyebrows raised. Did he actually use the term fuckboy?
„Did you just call him a fuckboy? Really Sammy?”
He shrugs and puts his sunglasses on.
„If the shoe fits.”
Gwen smirks at him and takes another bite out of her hot dog. Funny enough, the sight of her biting into the phallic-shaped yumminess makes my brother shift in his seat.
Ah, men; such simple creatures.
„He`s not a fuckboy, Sam. What happened is between him and me and you need to stay out of it.”
He doesn't say anything to that, so I`m pretty sure I`m preaching to deaf ears.
The seats that Max got for us are, in fact, really good. We are close to the 50-yard line in the 10th row, so I`ll get to see the players up-close. I miss the guys from the team, so it will be nice to see them in action.
„When does the game start? I`ve already eaten my hot dog and drank half my soda,” Gwen whines from next to me.
„It should start any minute now,” Sam says after checking his watch.
Sure enough, two minutes later, the music starts playing, and the players walk out onto the field, and I immediately look for Max`s number 46. I finally spot him, and my heart does a little flip-flop at how handsome he looks. He has the determined look of a man going to war, and I can't help the smile that comes to my face when I see him.
He looks directly at our seats, and when he sees me, he smiles too. It`s then that a sense of longing so fierce takes ahold of me that for a moment, it`s like I can`t breathe.
I can`t live like this anymore. After the game, I`ll talk to him and tell him I want us to try again. We`re not meant to be just friends. I`m in love with him, and I want to believe he`s in love with me too. And if I love him a little bit more, well I`ll have to live with that and hope that one day he`ll feel just as strongly for me.
I feel a sense of calm surround me after making my decision.
„Oh, God, did we miss it?”
I hear Ema`s voice before she flops down on the seat beside Gwen. Simon is right behind her, looking a bit out of breath.
„Miss what?” I ask
Simon gives Ema a reproachful look before taking the seat beside her.
„Of course we didn`t miss it, calm down.”
He gives her another strange look that I don`t understand.
Ema`s eyes go big before she covers it by smiling.
„Oh, you know, the beginning of the game.”
I raise my eyebrows because she`s acting weird, but judging by the innocent look she tries to give me, she`s not going to tell me what`s up with her.
„Nope, the game hasn`t started yet. It`s taking forever,” Gwen says, seemingly oblivious to how weird Ema`s acting.
„Oh good, I wouldn`t want to miss it.”
„If you had listened to me and not insisted on coming in that rust bucket you call a car, we would have been here a lot earlier,” Simon says, and he must be annoyed because his accent is much more pronounced then usual.
„For the last time, don`t call my car a rust bucket,” Ema screeches.
Simon opens his mouth to respond, but just then, the announcer`s voice booms from the speakers.
„Ladies and gentlemen, the game will start in a short time, but before, we have something special planned. I`m sure all you ladies present today will love this more than any game of football. Well, let`s get going. Our own number 46, Max Kingston, has something he needs to do before he can go do his magic on the field.”
My eyes got big, and I look for Max. I get a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach when I see the very determined
