truck was because he had put on his seatbelt as well.

Although he still appeared dazed, when he got himself together, he hurried out to check on his boss. But before he could get to him, Altar stood straight up as if he hadn't just flown through a window, and began to dust broken glass from his clothes. The soldier came to a halt, staring at him in shock.

I turned in my seat to look for Gabe. There was no sign of him. It was as if he had disappeared in thin air. We were on an abandoned street that was extremely dark. Apparently, there were very few street lights that worked in this area. Altar and the soldier who had put on my seatbelt ran back toward me.

“You drive!” He yelled to the soldier as he jumped in the passenger seat.

But before he could put the car in gear, Gabe came out of nowhere, running fast toward the truck in front of us. They didn't see him because they were still looking at us.

“Shoot him!” Altar yelled to the driver of our truck. The man reached for his gun, but right then Gabe hit the truck in front of us like a linebacker, sending it flying to crash into a tree across the street from us.

I screamed! He hit the SUV so hard that it literally wrapped around the tree.

Even Altar cringed. “Damn!” Was all he could say.

There was no way any of those men inside survived. Loud shots filled the air as the rest of the soldiers poured out the truck behind us and began to shoot at him. Tears came to my eyes as I watched him leap straight up and disappear on the overpass.

Dear God was he shot?

The soldiers walked away from their vehicle toward ours, guns aimed as they looked around for him. At this point they all seemed a little shook. I'm pretty sure none of them had ever seen anything like what they had just witnessed. Altar exited the truck. I was positive this wasn't his first rodeo.

“Keep your eyes open.” He said, scanning the night.

He ducked suddenly, just as what looked like a streetlight pole went flying over his head. It smashed into two of the soldiers who had not seen it coming.

I stared horrified at the carnage that happened right before my eyes. The pole had taken the heads completely off both men, and their bodies stood there for a minute before they fell to the ground. One of their hands still twitched.

Everything went into frenzy after that. The remaining three or four soldiers began shooting. I screamed when Altar snatched my door opened. He released my seatbelt and pulled me out of the truck. I tried to punch him but my limbs were still too relaxed to do any damage.

“Look at him!” The Maniac said in my ear, holding me to him with his arm wrapped around my throat.

I tried to focus on what was going on in front of me, but it was too much for my drugged brain to keep up with. Gabe appeared in back of one of the soldiers and was now holding him like Altar was holding me. But he was using the soldier hand that held his gun to take out his fellow comrades, while using his body as a shield.

“Isn't he magnificent?” Altar continued to speak in my ear. “You know the Ancient of Days created the Slayers because of my kind—they’re the exterminators for his little pest problem!” He chuckled.

Gabe threw the body that was riddled with holes at one of the last soldiers standing. It distracted him long enough for Gabe to make it to him and snatch his gun from him. In the blink of an eye he broke it in two, bringing the handle down so hard it split the man's head in two.

“What did I say?” Altar muttered. “Just vicious!”

Gabe took the other half and threw it at the last soldier that was trying to flee. He looked back just in time to see the gun part coming at him fast like a missile. His eyes widen, but that was his last act because the nose of the gun went straight through his back and out his chest.

“Well now, it looks as if I’ve underestimated you pup!” Altar told Gabe who was walking toward us looking like an avenging angel. His hair was no longer in the ponytail, it blew wildly in the breeze around his head, back and shoulders.

At some point he had taken off his t-shirt and now only wore his tank-top. The vicious lion claw that came over his muscled shoulder was so fitting with the image he made right now. And I know it was probably the drugs, but he looked so freaking hot that I just wanted to run and jump on him.

Altar began to walk back, pulling me with him.

“I will never let you go Yasmin!” He whispered in my ear.

When Gabriel saw that he whispered to me, this angered him so badly that he roared in rage. The sound was so fierce that it shook the ground.

“Let her go! Or I swear I will rip your heart out!”

“You can kill this body, but I will only find one stronger, and I will be back for you. I will never let her go!” He pushed me away from him then, turning to run.

Right then a gray Hummer skidded to a halt. Mac and several of Gabe's men jumped out. I hit the ground just as Gabe shot past me so fast I didn’t recognize him. He chased after Altar.

He caught him before he reached the overpass. When Altar turned around to fight him, his eyes were bright red. And maybe it was the drugs, but it looked like his teeth were fangs and his hands were claws. He attacked Gabe with amazing speed.

But Gabriel just dodged his clawed hands before hitting him with an uppercut that caused his body to fly up and
