slam against the overpass before slamming back to the ground.

He laid there for a moment dazed, but it was a moment too long. Gabe was on him, punching him with blows so powerful I believe I felt the vibration of them through the ground. Then he hit him in his chest. And the man let out a piercing scream as Gabe came up with his still beating heart in his palm.

Propped up on my arm, I watched astonished as he then stood and threw the heart as hard as he could against the overpass wall, causing it to splatter before falling to the trashed littered ground.

Obviously still very angry, he let out another roar before turning back toward us. Mac and his other men just stood looking around at the carnage; their faces mirroring my own. When Gabe was only a feet away, Mac opened the back door of the Hummer and pulled a screaming Shanice out.

“Found this one on the way to the airport.” He said, shoving her into Gabe's arms. She was weeping so hard.

“Yas, help me!” She yelled. I tried to sit up but the drug was still too strong in my system.

“Wait!” I called, but it was barely over a whisper.

“Shhh!” Gabe told her. “No sweetheart... shhh!” I relaxed a little. It looked as if he was trying to comfort her. I looked back at Mac who stood watching with a look as fierce as Gabe's.

“Calm down!” He continued, rubbing his bloody hand down her quivering face. She stopped yelling, but she still silently wept. I frowned. He was not rubbing her face. He was using her face to wipe the blood off his hand.

“Oh… no!” He brought her head to rest against his shoulder where he proceeded to rub it; still cleaning the blood off his hand. Hmm…

He wasn't comforting her! I tried to sit back up. He wasn't comforting her!

“Are you calm sweetheart?” He asked in a nice soothing voice that didn't belong.

She nodded her head that still rested against his shoulder.

“Good! Now tell me… who was that man?” She looked up at him.

“Gabe I swear! He just showed up out of nowhere. He told me his name was Kevin and he was from Sweetwater looking for Yasmin. He told me if I helped him he would pay me! I didn't want to help him! I swear! But he said if I didn't he would kill me!” She was crying so hard her words were barely legible.

Gabe nodded his head, bringing hers to rest back against his shoulder.

“It's okay, sweetheart! What else did he tell you?”

“That’s all, I swear!”

“How much did he pay you?” His question was asked too softly. I wanted to warn Shanice not to answer, but before I could she muttered.

“A million dollars!” Gabe pretended to be amazed.

“Wow! A million dollars!” He looked up at Mac. “Damn! Bruh… that's a lot of money!”

Mac just shook his head before he turned and spit on the ground. Watching him as if he was an agitated lion, Shanice asked.

“Are you going to kill me?”

“Yes!”  He said softly, before he took her head in both of his hands and twisted it so hard that it did a complete three-sixty on her shoulders. The sound of her breaking bones could be heard over the faint calls of the approaching sirens.

Chapter 18

Quench My Burning Need

Yasmin

Mac bent down to scoop up Gabe's discarded t-shirt. “Yo, we need to bounce. Dem boys will be here in a minute!”

My shocked gaze lowered to Shanice body that had fallen at Gabriel's feet before it traveled to take in the destruction that surrounded me. The way that I was feeling right now frightened me. Being this close to Gabe caused the drug to awaken inside me with a vengeance, just like it had done that night I danced at Shugga's Place.

Although, I know I should be disgusted with the carnage he had just reaped. No one man should have been capable of doing what he had just done. And yet, that fact was working havoc on my drugged system.

He stood over me looking so fierce with his long hair falling down and around his shoulders and face.

There was so much in his eyes. It pained him that I had to witness this side of him and yet he was still very angry. He reached down and lifted me off the ground. I sucked in my breath as pleasure flooded my body. The need in me had intensified to a blinding level.

I wrapped my arms around his strong neck burying my face in the crevice. He smelled like power. His strength enveloped me, taking me to a place where nobody else existed but us.

Mac brought the Hummer to a screeching halt next to us. Gabe opened the rear door and climbed in still holding me in his arms. The truck was in motion before he could get the big door closed. Most of the space back here was taken up with weapons. These boys had come prepared for war.

For a moment I rested in his arms with my head pressed against his massive chest, taking in his heat and the strong sound of his heartbeat. He put his finger underneath my chin lifting it so that he could see my face.

“You alright baby?”

His lips were so close, and he smelled so good. He was so strong. I nodded, but my gaze fell to his mouth. And as if they had a will of their own, my hands lifted to his head, bringing it down so that our lips touched.

The first kiss was gentle, a soft touch to reassure us both that we still lived and were now here in each other’s arms. But when our lips met again, there was nothing gentle about it… cause yes, we were still alive. And yes, we were here in each other’s arms. And yes, it could have been a different scenario all together.

My hands pulled him down lower as I
