Callie

The alien in my room, the guard, is tall. Maybe not quite as tall as some of the other breeders I’ve met, but still tall. Muscular. All of the Novans are. His eyes are what sets him apart. I’m sure other Novans have neon pink eyes like he does, but he’s the first one to have them.

But I only take quick peeks at them because I can’t bring myself to stare at him. He makes me nervous. All Novans make me nervous, but I’m even more nervous around this one.

Which is ridiculous. He’s a guard, not a breeder. He doesn’t want to have sex with me. He’s been nothing but kind to me.

"What's your name?" he asks in a soft tone that suggests he's repeating himself.

“Oh, I’m sorry.”

He chuckles. “That’s a strange name.”

“No!” I giggle despite myself. “I’m Callie.”

“Callie,” he repeats, saying my name slowly. “It’s nice to meet you, Callie.”

I have to take a deep breath to ask, “And your name?”

I wince. Why couldn’t I have just come out with the full question? Why does talking have to be so painful for me at times?

“I’m Adir,” he says.

He takes a step toward me. There’s nowhere for me to go, but I edge toward the left, away from the door.

“You’re afraid of me,” he says, sounding disappointed.

“I…”

“I’ll go.” He starts toward the door but then hesitates. “If you ever… If someone…” He grimaces and bites his lower lip.

He’s struggling with his words too. It humanizes him, and I don’t feel quite so nervous anymore. Don’t get me wrong. I’m still nervous but not as much now.

“If someone what?” I prompt gently.

"If someone wants to do something you don't want to, you let me know. You open the door, and you scream my name. I'll come."

“Oh, you don’t… I’m fine. I know what I signed up for.”

His eyebrows lift, and I glance away.

“I’m fine,” I say, forcing my voice to be louder.

“No one… has hurt you?”

“Oh, I wouldn’t say that.” I shake my head.

He lets out a growl that has me jumping.

“They didn’t mean to! I just… I tried to, ah… I, um…”

Adir lowers his head to get a better look at my face.

I swallow hard. He wants an answer. He wants to help me, be there for me, so I feel like I owe him an explanation, but he surprises me.

“You don’t have to tell me,” he says.

“No, I will. I, um, will try to, ah, arouse myself. I just… I can’t always get wet enough, and… it can sometimes hurt. They’re, ah, they’re big.” My face has to be bright red. I can feel the heat. I’m so very embarrassed.

“If they can’t smell your arousal, they shouldn’t be ovian touching you,” he growls.

“Smell my arousal?” I risk looking at him.

His face is fierce. He is not happy at all.

“I don’t want them to get in trouble,” I say in a rush. “It’s my fault. Not theirs.”

“We can smell when a female is aroused. Our noses are powerful.” He tilts his head to the side. “Can an Earthling male not smell when you’re ready?”

“Ah, no. Not quite.”

“Interesting,” he muses. “But that is no excuse. They should not—”

“I knew I, ah… I could tell that I wasn’t going to get truly aroused. I wasn’t getting… I wasn’t wet enough. There was nothing I could do, nothing they could do. It’s not their fault. I don’t blame them.”

“No. They were wrong.” He shakes his head, looking so angry on my behalf.

I don't know what possesses me, but I don't like that he looks so hurt for me, and I just react without thinking. I touch his arm and then immediately jerk back. His skin felt so warm, and I swear my fingers are tingling from where I touched him.

Adir looks at his arm where I touched him and looks up at me. I let out a kind of eep sound and duck around him toward the bed.

He laughs. “You don’t have to run from me. I’ll leave.”

“No!”

“No?” he asks, surprise coloring his words.

I shake my head.

“You want me to stay,” he says slowly, his words almost a question.

I no. “Can you… close the door.”

“I can.” He does, but he stands there, away from me. “You want me to keep guard over you so that the breeders won’t come by.”

I fidget, pulling on my fingers. “Maybe?”

He laughs. “You want to use me. I see how it is.”

“Oh, I’m sorry! Go ahead. Do your job. Help the other ladies.”

“I want to help you.” He takes two steps forward, almost enough to stand before me.

My heart begins to pound, and my gaze slowly travels up his body. He is so very strong and powerful, like the rest of them, but he’s been kind to me. Maybe if he were a breeder, I might be able to become wet. It might not hurt.

I stare at his face, at his strange eyes, and I feel myself get a bit lost in them. He’s not like the others, is he? I don’t think he is.

Slowly, I reach out toward him, wanting to touch his face, but I draw back, afraid. I’m making things awkward. He’s a guard, not a breeder. I shouldn’t even be thinking about him, and he shouldn’t be here, in my room, especially with the door shut.

“If you want to touch me, you can,” he murmurs.

His soft voice has me making eye contact with him again. I never touched the others, the breeders. I don’t even think any of them kissed me. They just entered me and did their thing and then left. It’s not that I didn’t want them. It had nothing to do with that. And they tried to some extent to get me to come. I just didn’t. My body didn’t react to them. It was consensual, but I also didn’t want them physically. Mentally, I did.

My hand comes up again, and this time, I cup his cheek. His skin
