had to admit, panic was rising within me. The Shadow wasn’t dead, he was alive and hunting, out free to grab some other poor unsuspecting child. The thought of that child going through what I did that first day made me feel like throwing up, but I pushed it back. This wasn't the time to let the past rip me apart, because if that monster did have another girl, I was likely the best chance she had of being found quickly.

“Livy….” Cole started, but I jumped up, stopping him.

“Call Kyle. Tell him to get that team together from before. They’re going to search for that cabin again, and this time I’m going with them.” I said as calmly as I possibly could, determination in my words. I was damn well going to do everything in my power to rescue that girl, just like I had prayed for someone to rescue me.

“Livy, Love, just…..”

“No Kade! He took another little girl. Right now she could already be there, in that cabin, screaming for him to stop while he beats the shit out of her. I can stop him. I can find that cabin, and she can be rescued before it’s too late for her. There is no other way. You need me to find that place.”

“He might not even have gone back there.” Cole protested.

“True, but even if he hasn’t, there will be clues there to help find him. His fingerprints and DNA have to be all over that place.”

“You can’t go back there, Love. It’s more than you’re ready for right now.”

“I have to Kade. I don’t need to go in. I can just help them find the place, then I can get away from it. Please, just call Kyle. I have to do this for that poor little girl. No one should go through what I had to.”

“No, they shouldn’t.” He agreed solemnly. “I can get a team together, some guys from my unit, and some local cops from up near Shawnee.”

“No, it needs to be Kyle’s team. They spent three days up there when I was missing. They know the area already. Plus, you said yourself, if might not be The Shadow that took this girl. If it’s some other sicko, this will be a waste of time your team could have spent following other leads.” I didn't mention I didn't want a whole team of police coming to the cabin if it turned out I did kill The Shadow. I was terrified they would arrest me and lock me in jail for the rest of my life. Kyle wouldn’t let his team turn me over.

“Fine, but I’m coming.” Kade agreed.

“We’re all going. I’ll call Matt, tell him what’s going on.” Cole said as he turned and left the room with his cell in hand.

Kade walked over, standing as close in front of me as he could, then he looked down until his eyes met mine.

“You sure about this?” He asked, as his hands settled on my quaking shoulders.

“No. But I’m doing it anyway.” There was no way I could be deterred from helping that missing girl.

CHAPTER 10

Kyle was sulking. He was sitting in the front passenger seat of Kade’s escalade, and he refused to talk to any of us. He was not happy that I was coming along on this search, and he had made it plainly clear from the second he came smashing into the house the night before, banging the door so hard behind him, the walls had shaken.

There had been a full on argument between me, Cole , Matt and Kade, who all seemed to get that I had to do this, and him, who did not understand, or want to anyway. It had gone on all of last night, even Keira and Grant becoming involved. Grant was with Kyle, he didn’t want me to be endangered, regardless of the reasoning for it, but Keira was with me, agreeing I had to do what I could to prevent anyone else meeting my fate.

Kyle and Grant had tried for hours to convince me to stay behind at home, while the team went alone to sweep the area for the cabin again, but I knew that would be pointless. If they didn’t find it last time without me, they wouldn’t this time either. I had to go, no matter how mad Kyle was with me.

So the five of us were all on our way out to the spot where those two police officers had found me so many weeks ago. I had wanted to go the night before, but Kade wisely pointed out that would mean we were left searching in the dark, which would have been stupid. So we had set out early the next morning, not one of us having slept a wink. I had spent the whole night unable to stop myself thinking of that missing little girl, wondering if she was as brutally broken as I had been that first night I lay on a cold damp floor in The Darkness, bleeding and trying desperately to cry in silence.

Kyle’s boss and a team of three of his guys were meeting us there. I was nervous about meeting them, but I had my guys surrounding me. Compared to the terror I felt about seeing that cabin, and possibly The Shadow again, that worry was minor anyway.

“Olivia, I need you to make sure you stay with all of us the whole time we’re out here.” Kade called from the front. He glanced up from the road, his  eyes meeting mine in the rear view mirror.

“I will.” I agreed,

“I mean it. No running off on your own. We have no idea if that monster is out here, and we cannot take a risk.”

“We’re already taking the fucking risk just bringing her out here!” Kyle barked. Yep, he was seriously pissed off.

“Kyle, there’s a ten year old child out there, scared and alone, just like I was. The Shadow could be hurting her right now,
