I walk outside to have a little bit of privacy. I see Shield look at me with narrowed eyes, but he doesn’t say anything.
I stay in front of the store so he and the women can see me. I watch them start ringing up their purchases.
“Hey baby, how’s shopping?” he asks.
I take a moment to cherish the sound of his voice over the phone. I don’t think that I will ever get tired of it.
“Great. I think I picked a few things you might like,” I say with a smile.
He lets out a low chuckle. “I can’t wait for you to show me later,” he says, his voice low and husky.
The women and Shield are walking out of the shop towards me as I keep talking to Colton.
“I’ll let you get back to shopping, baby. Don’t forget to use the debit card I got for you,” he says, and I can’t help but roll my eyes. He reminded me plenty of times to use that card this morning.
“Alright, I’ll see you when you are done work,” I say, and my head snaps up to the sound of the women yelling.
Everything becomes a blur and all I can focus on is the car coming at me.
I feel like it’s going in slow motion. I hear Colton yelling on the phone and the sound of heavy footsteps coming toward me before I’m shoved to the side and my whole body turns over. I feel my arm, hip, and leg being scraped on the ground that’s taking a layer of skin with it.
I manage to keep my attention on the car that was in front of me and what I see has me screaming in horror. I hear the sounds of the other women screaming.
When the car drives away, I completely register what happened.
I run over to Shield as he’s lying on the ground and blood is forming around him.
I sit beside him with tears streaming down my cheeks.
“Shield… SHIELD!!! You have to wake up for me!” I yell hysterically.
“Oh god, please tell me he’s okay,” Ella comes beside me with a sob catching in her throat.
I hear Stacey on the phone saying an ambulance will be here soon, and Olivia is calling Steal yelling into the phone what happened.
I feel around Shield’s neck for a pulse and I only feel a bit better when I feel one. I’m still stuck with a whole bunch of worry when I realize that the pulse is faint.
The next few minutes are a blur. When the ambulance finally arrives, I hear a bunch of motorcycles. My legs almost give out to the sight of the club. I just know that Colton is among them.
All of us rush into our men’s arms. The ambulance pulls away and we are answering questions on what happened. I hear them say they have a security camera of it from the shop we were at.
“I was standing there talking to you and the next thing I know, I’m on the ground,” I say with a sob.
Then Colton tightens his arms around me. I let out a hiss and that’s when I remember that I have scrapes. I was so concentrated on Shield that I didn’t think at all about what happened to me.
Colton pulls back and, when he sees me holding my side, he lifts my shirt to see the long scrape. I also have a tear on the side of my pants from the road. I just know that I’m going to bruise if I haven’t already.
I get placed in Shield’s truck and a prospect is driving me to the hospital. I hear the bikes following behind us.
I can barely keep my eyes open as my body starts to crash from the intensity of everything that happened.
Trigger ‘Colton’
I don’t think that I have ever been so terrified in my life.
I heard the sounds of people shouting Sophie’s name, and then the phone got cut off.
I ran from the shop cursing.
When Crash asked me what’s going on, I could only yell “Sophie!” I heard the sounds of bikes following me and knew that I had my brothers at my back.
I looked in horror at the scene in front of me.
I could see the ambulance and police around the women. All the Old Ladies were crying. When I saw Sophie standing, I felt relief that she was okay, but then I looked at the ground and saw the paramedics who were working on an unconscious Shield. There was blood surrounding him.
“Fuck,” I curse as I make my way to my woman.
When she sees me, she clings to me with everything she has.
It takes longer than I care to admit for me to realize that she is injured.
I was concentrated on the relief that she wasn’t the one being rushed to the hospital.
That also brought a new wave of fear through me.
Shield is my brother through and through. We prospected together and got patched in together. We had both happened to earn our patches on the same night when the Devil Souls MC had tried to take Ella.
Seeing all that blood around him, I’m wondering if he’s going to make it to the hospital. I know that guy is a tough fucker and I fucking hope that I’m not saying goodbye to a brother.
We rush to the hospital. I didn’t want Sophie to leave my side, but I knew she wouldn’t have been able to ride on my bike with her injuries.
She’s passed out when we pull up, and I carry her in.
They had already rushed Shield off to surgery. The surgeon is actually a good friend of the club.
He tells us that he will be out
