will need a photo and location for the hit.” She directed Nobu who typed away.

The man on the other end smiled and laughed. They watched as he typed away. Then another chime, this was a deposit notice for her account. Nobu would transfer that to one of her off shore accounts.

They received a file with the picture of the target, a young man.

“His name is Walter Norton. He will be at Fell’s Point for some kind of opening ceremony. Looks like an open area.” Nobu said.

There was another chime. This time it was for Haiden’s account. They watched as the man on the other side typed away.

“Have job, perhaps to complete from your miss the last time. Same woman. Have a time and place she will be in location. Will pay $50,000.”

“Yeah, you bastard. Got you now.” Nobu said.

“Yes. Will take hit, will not fail this time. I know what she looks like.” Nobu typed and they watched as the man on the other end smiled and nodded.

“She will be at Fell’s Point, next Friday. She is following Walter Norton. She must be killed before she makes her hit.”

“Confirm. Now that I know her face, it will be easy to take her out.” Nobu typed, his face grim.

They all watched as the man typed and the chime of the deposit for Haiden was accepted. The man sat back, his bloated face a smug caricature of a man who didn’t know he’d just signed his own death warrant.

“I want this information saved. Here’s what I’m thinking.” Imani said calmly, looking at both Haiden and Nobu.

“Nobu, find out who he is and where he lives. Haiden, next Wednesday, you and I will pay Best a visit. Before I kill him, I will have Best confess who he had contracted for hits and the reasons. You will have to record that, but not with my voice. We will send the recording off to the Washington Post and a few other news outlets. I won’t inform the police on this one, the Washington Post or the Washington National News, will have that pleasure.” She smiled grimly.

“It should be easy, I’m looking now at all the senators in Washington. Hold on for a tic and let me see who this dirtbag is.” Nobu said, as his fingers nearly burned the keys as they typed. The clicking was the only sound in the room, both she and Haiden were silent.

“Son of a bitch, it is Senator Reed J. Best, senator from Wyoming.” Nobu hissed.

“Get his itinerary, check for Wednesday. Ten to one, he’ll be in his home state and no where near Washington on Friday.” Imani said darkly.

“Give me a second. He is still logged on as you can see from his ugly mug on the screen. Got it. Yeah, he’ll be at home. I’ll check for the other hits in the past, see if I can get into the dates, I’m sure he was home as well.” Nobu said.

“Sneaky bastard that one.” Haiden said and Imani saw that there was rage beneath the calm tone. She smiled, and felt a flutter. He was angry on her behalf. She was used to Nobu feeling that way, it was nice that Haiden felt so as well.

“We’ll fix his little red wagon. We’ll have to fly into Denver, get a car, not a rental Nobu, I’ll need one from your friends. We don’t want to be tracked from Denver. We’ll get a nice hotel room under alias and then drive to Senator Best’s home.” Imani said.

“I think once we have his confession, we route the call via Nobu and have him forward onto the Washington National News.” Haiden suggested.

“Good call, okay, Nobu, I leave you to your work.” Imani said, leaving the room.

She felt rather than saw Haiden follow her. She turned looking at him and smiled at his brooding countenance.

“Look, this is good. He came to you, and not some other hitter. We got this Haiden.” She said.

“It really makes me want to kill him a hundred times over. Bastard, smug and using his position and authority to get rid of those in his way.”

“That’s why we have the job we do, if he or others didn’t, we wouldn’t have a job.” She laughed, and he turned and grinned.

“Sorry, it’s just this guy is using me to kill you. Cause he is tying up loose ends. I don’t like being used and I don’t like that he wants you dead.”

“Look at it this way, you just got paid $50,000 for killing him. Me too.” She laughed and sat back down on the couch. Haiden sat beside her and took her hand, surprising her. He lifted it to his lips, his eyes looking into hers and kissed it.

She could feel her face heat up. She didn’t know what to do.

TEN

Imani looked at Haiden, frozen. She wasn’t sure what to do, for the first time in her life. She felt suspended in time. She watched as Haiden leaned in and kissed her on the mouth. She leaned into him and placed her hand on his shoulder, accepting the kiss. She felt the warmth of his hand on her waist and felt him pull her to him. It was the first real kiss she’d had in eight years. That was the last time she’d dated. She felt clumsy and nervous. She soon got out of her own head and let her body have its way.

She heard a noise and pulled back, without looking over, she said, “Get back in your room Yenta, and shut the door.” She leaned back in to kiss Haiden and she could feel the rumble of laughter in his chest.

“He really is a Yenta.” Haiden sniggered, looking over at the closed door.

“He means well.” She grinned, tugging at Haiden’s ponytail.
