also identified about 10 meeting places as well as several safe houses. The plan is to watch the known members as we start attacking the known places. Then we can see if they go to ground anywhere else. For that reason, we will also start picking up the lower level members. These members may be able to be released eventually, but it will be a case by case evaluation. Our role is minimal. They may need to use one of us as bait, but for right now, I am directing the action from here. My soldiers can handle this.”

I was quiet when he finished. I don’t know what I expected, but that wasn’t it. My emotions were all tangled, and I couldn’t decide how I felt about Stefa possibly being executed. On one hand, she was a pretty shitty mother to me, and had endangered my life on more than one occasion. On the other hand, she was the only mother I had. Even though it was stupid, and I tried very hard not to, I did still care about her. David started rubbing my back.

Kait sighed. I glared at him and he put his hands up. “Princess, believe it or not, I understand what you are going through, and despite what you think, it is fairly common for someone in your position, who has gone through similar things, to feel the way you do. Emotions are complex things, and to expect them to be logical is ridiculous. Don’t feel bad because you are experiencing something very natural. Just don’t try to get in the way when the time comes.”

Now it was my turn to sigh. “I understand. What’s next? When will we be actively involved?”

“Hopefully, never. I would like my soldiers to take care of this.” I started to protest, but a glance from Kait had me shutting my mouth quickly. “And I mean, none of us will be involved. We will not be taking risks without including, or at least informing, you.”

I had started to nod at the beginning of the sentence but stopped when he added the informing part. “We talked about this, Kait.”

“Yes, we did. It’s not a matter of keeping you safe, it’s a matter of using everyone where their skills are the best. You are skilled at organizing, not fighting. Your task is going to be organizing the reports that are coming in so I can get a clear picture quickly. The only one of us that is a strong enough fighter to consider going out is me.”

As much as I wanted to argue, I couldn’t. None of us were trained fighters, not in the way the soldiers were. My shoulders sagged as I asked, “Do you really think we are safe here?”

“Yes, I do, Princess. No enemy has ever found me here.”

“Okay. Is Janelle bringing us groceries?”

“She’s already here, and is working on breakfast as we speak. Sarah is on her way as well.”

I nodded, but my mind was already wandering to other things. How to arrange the reports, what supplies I may need, and why David’s scent was so much stronger today. It was overwhelming my mind, making it hard to think about other things. He chuckled and moved away a little bit. I immediately missed him. He was only 6 inches farther away, but it felt like a mile. I shook my head, while David and Kait just grinned at me.

I cleared my throat. “I’m gonna, uh, go see if Janelle needs any help. We are done here, right?”

“Yes, we’re done, Princess.” A laugh was evident in his tone, but thankfully, he didn’t say anything or laugh outright. I don’t know what was wrong with my hormones lately.

Janelle was just finishing the bacon and starting on the scrambled eggs when I got to the kitchen. “Do you need help?”

She glanced over her shoulder at me. “Nope, I’m just about done. You could set the table, though.”

“Okay.” I gathered the plates, silverware and condiments as my mind wandered. I wondered if the experience we shared last night had helped David, or if it had made the jealousy worse. I resolved to talk to him about it after breakfast, since there wasn’t much else to do here anyway. I had just finished setting the table when Janelle started bringing in breakfast. I called out to the guys, and they all filed in. Breakfast was quiet, but it was a comfortable silence, as everyone ate their fill.

Once we were done, I helped clear the table and wash the dishes. It was odd that Kait had a full set of dishes when he said it was normally only him here. I resolved to ask him about it later. When the last dish was put away, I went searching for David.

I found him in the room that was designated as his, laying on his back on the bed. He was staring at the ceiling vacantly. I settled myself on the bed next to him, and he blindly reached for me. I thought he was reaching for my hand, but once he found it, he pulled me over onto him. His hungry mouth took mine, and he kissed me hard. He moved from my lips down to my neck.

“David, not that I don’t like this, but I needed to talk to you.” My voice was breathless, and a lot less firm than I had wanted it to be. He continued to suck and nibble at my neck, so I pushed, rather ineffectively, at his chest. “David, I’m serious.”

He mumbled against me, as his hand found the bottom of my shirt, “So am I. Please, Sugar, I need you.”

I couldn’t fight the resigned tone in his voice, or the feelings he was causing. I gave in and started kissing his neck. He reached under my shirt and played with my hard nipple through the lacy bra. I unbuttoned his pants and grasped his hard length through his underwear. He moved his hips against my hand. I could feel
