Amy went up and got the next few rounds. While she was up there flirting with Eddie, who helped Chelsea out from time to time, Chels moved over to me and took a seat beside me. We had spoken a few times this week when she had come into the diner for lunch before she needed to be at the bar to start work.
“Tonight cannot end quickly enough.” She took a drink from her water bottle and let out a breath.
“Big night after work?”
“No, going home to bed! My stupid neighbors have been keeping me up ‘til all hours and I have been getting no sleep. Eddie is letting me crash in his spare room to give me a break from it.” She looked over to the bar. “Though, he may not be going home alone.”
“Or I’ll be the one getting no sleep.” I sigh.
“You could be not sleeping for a whole other reason.”
“I thought you said not to bother there?”
“If anyone could crack Kane, it would be you.”
“What do you know about him? I’m trying to keep my head down and avoid attention.”
“Kane is Vice Pres of the MC club here. He comes in here, takes the edge off and goes home. He never takes anyone home with him.”
“So what makes you think I can change that?” She shrugged again.
“Just a feeling I have.” Chelsea looked at her watch before taking another drink from her water bottle. Sliding back out of the booth, she looked down at me. “Think about it.” I nodded and she disappeared back behind the bar. Amy returned not long after carrying our drinks.
“So… will you be okay to get home on your own tonight?” She wiggled her brows and I groaned.
“Sure can. You have fun. Just keep it down so Chelsea can sleep yeah?”
“I make no promises.” The smirk told me that Chelsea would be getting no sleep again tonight. I wanted to go and tell her she should come and crash on our couch. Her words were going round in my mind though. Now what do I do?

I sat at the bar, trying not to show that I was listening in on the conversation between Kaitlyn and her friend. As soon as her friend said she was trying to stay off the radar, I couldn’t stop myself. Why was she hiding from her father? I knew after hearing this, there was no way I was going home to sleep when I left. I would be following her home just to make sure she was okay. Especially after hearing she was going home alone. She was my mate, we needed to protect what was ours. As I sat there, the beast inside of me was clawing his way out. I swear if he was able to, he would shred me to get to her. I had to find a way to let her know that I wasn’t going to take her back to her father. It made me want to call Dakota and get him to run her name and see what he could come up with but that would mean finding out her last name.
When Chelsea came back over after talking to her, she moved over to check and see if I needed another drink.
“What do you know about Kaitlyn?” She raised her brow.
“Why do you want to know?”
“Well you seem hell bent on setting us up, I want to know what I’m in for.”
“Well I don’t really know much about her. She started coming here with Amy a few weeks back, now she is living with her and working in the diner.” I took a drink of my beer to finish it off before Chelsea took it and replaced it with a full one.
“Where did she move from?”
“Doucheville.” I swallowed my mouthful.
“Really?” I glanced over at her quickly before looking back in front of me. ‘Doucheville’ was what we named the wealthy towns a few over from us. They were the ones who thought we were beneath them and not worth the time of day. Not that we gave a shit about that. We just kept our distance from them. “She seems so down to earth compared to ninety percent of them.” Chelsea went to say something but stopped and cleared her throat.
“Same again please, Chelsea.” I closed my eyes at the sound of her voice. Shit, I hadn’t even felt her coming closer. I needed to stop drinking before I cut my senses off completely. I wasn’t looking for numb tonight. When Chelsea moved away to get the drinks, Kaitlyn leaned on the bar and looked over at me.
“You know if there is anything you want to know about me, you could ask me yourself.” Busted… Time to cover myself.
“Got to know who I am protecting in my town, Kaitlyn.”
“Your town huh?”
“Yup! Cops like to think they have a lock on this place, but really my brother, Blaze, me, and the boys do.”
“Good to know. Should I call you if I am ever in trouble then?” I opened my mouth to speak but stopped. I reached over and took a napkin.
“Chelsea, throw me a pen.” Without stopping to look, she took the pen from beside the register and threw it at me. Catching it, I quickly wrote down my number and slid it over to Kaitlyn. “We’ll get there faster.” She folded the napkin, putting it down her top before taking the drinks as Chelsea came back, leaving the money on the counter for her.
“I’ll keep that in mind. Oh by the way, you and your brothers should cut out some of the red meat from your lunches.”
“Noted.” Kaitlyn moved away from us and back to her friend. I handed Chelsea her pen back.
“What was that about?” I shrugged at her question.
“Cops are tied up with shit at the moment. Would hate for something to happen to her waiting for them.”
“How very noble of you.” I could hear the tone in her voice.
