Me: D, know it’s a long shot but can you see if you can find anything on a girl named Kaitlyn from ‘Doucheville’. I will try and get a last name to go on. She’s early twenties. Please be discreet about this.
Decoder: Please, think about who you are talking to.
Me: I know. Hence why I am asking for discreet. She is hiding. I don’t need your searches setting anything off.
Decoder: Oh ye of little faith. You telling Blaze?
Me: Yeah, I will fill him in. He knows about her though so it won’t be a surprise to him.
Decoder: Gotcha. Will let you know what I find.
Putting my phone back into my pocket, I now just had to wait it out until she left. When they called last drinks, everyone started to leave the bar until it was Kaitlyn, Amy, Chelsea, Eddie and me. I finished off my beer just as the girls were getting ready to leave. I was just walking out the door when Chelsea called out to me.
“Oi, Kane, you busy right now?” I raised a brow.
“No, why?”
“Well, Amy is coming home with Eddie and leaving Kaitlyn to get home alone. Can you make sure she gets home okay? I don’t feel right leaving her. I called a cab…” I nodded.
“Okay, I’ll meet you outside.” Kaitlyn went to open her mouth but before she could say anything, I walked out of the bar. I knew my beast would not settle if I left her. At least this way we could make sure she got home and this was the less creepy way of doing it. Hearing the door open behind me, I turned to see her walking out. She gave Amy a hug before moving over to stand by me.
“Thank you for doing this, you don’t have to. If you want to go home, I will be fine to get home.”
“I don’t mind, it’s fine.” The cab pulled up at the curb. Opening the door for her, I let her get in before getting in after her. Kaitlyn gave the driver her address and relaxed against the seat and looked out the window. It was only a few streets away from mine. “If you ever need anything, I am over on Oak Street.” She glanced over at me.
“Are you always a knight in shining armor?”
“God no. I am as tainted as they come and don’t pretend to be anything else. I know things other don’t, though. I have seen the worst in some other human beings. When it comes to women, there is a right way to treat them though and making sure one of them gets home safe is part of that.”
“Tainted huh? Secret for a secret?” We were entering dangerous territory right now and if I wasn’t careful this was going to end badly. Blaze was gonna have my ass if I fuck up. Better to play this safe.
“Maybe some other time.”

The cab pulled up at my place and I went to open my purse. “Don’t worry about it, I’ve got it.”
“Are you sure?”
“I’m sure.”
“Okay, thank you.” Getting out of the back, I took my keys out and looked around before I moved away from the car. What I really wanted to do was to get back in and all but beg Kane to let me go with him. I had an uneasy feeling in my stomach but I was just being silly. I hadn’t been alone here before so this was just new to me. I turned to see the cab still sitting there as I made my way inside. Turning off the alarm, I locked the door after me. Turning off the front light, knowing Amy wouldn’t be home until tomorrow during the day, I headed for the kitchen to grab a bottle of water from the fridge before heading into my room. Kicking off my shoes and putting them at the end of the bed, where I was less likely to trip over them, I shrugged out of my jacket and moved to hang it up. I wasn’t entirely sure why I wore it, it wasn’t cold out. Maybe it was a security blanket type thing. Undoing the button on my jeans, I slid them down. Picking them up and laying them over the end of the bed, I took off my shirt and bra. Grabbing my tank top I wore to bed, I put it and my shorts on before turning off my main light and turning on my bedside lamp. Grabbing my phone, I climbed into bed. There was a message from Amy asking me to text her when I got home so that she knew I was okay so opening up my messages, I shot off a quick text to her knowing that by now she was probably otherwise occupied.
There was something about my ride home that I just couldn’t shake. Something in Kane’s words. Getting back out of bed, I searched for my purse. Taking out the napkin he had written his number on, I saved it into my phone before bringing up my messages. I knew he gave me his number for ‘emergency’ reasons but I just couldn’t ignore this pull to him. Could I?
Me: Let’s play twenty questions.
Kane: Let’s not and say we did.
Me: How would I get my answers then?
Kane: Make them up. Most people do!
Me: I’m not most people. Come on! It will be fun!
Kane: What are the chances of me getting out of this?
Me: None! I am pretty relentless when I
