I look at Phil and Phil gives me a concerned look.
“Anything else for us?” asks Jon.
I look at Phil and Phil answers Jon, “No, I think that’s it.”
“Good I have to get back home,” says Jon.
Matt stands up from the sofa and walks towards the door that leads into Shaun’s garage.
I see Matt exit Shaun’s house and I look at Phil and Phil says, “I’ll go talk with him.”
Phil exits Shaun’s house and meets up with Matt.
“Hold up Matt,” says Phil as Phil chases down Matt at the bottom of Shaun’s driveway.
Matt stops walking and looks at Phil.
“You okay man?” asks Phil to Matt.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” answers Matt.
Phil looks at Matt and jokes, “You don’t look fine.”
Matt sees an entrance guard, in the distance walking down the sidewalk of our main street, and asks, “Was it him?”
Phil looks at the guard and jokes, “Could be.”
Matt stares at the guard and Phil realizes that Matt didn’t get his joke and says, “I was only kidding. We don’t know who said it.”
Matt looks at Phil and Phil says to Matt, “Look, it doesn’t matter what they said, what matters is that we keep our cool and wait until they do something and then we’ll decide what to do with them.”
“So we are doing the wait and see approach with them?” asks Matt with an angry tone.
Phil senses Matt’s angry tone and asks, “Do you have a problem with that?”
Matt thinks about Phil’s question and doesn’t answer Phil.
I exit Shaun’s house with Jon.
Jon walks down Shaun’s driveway and asks Phil and Matt, “Everything okay here?”
Phil looks at Matt.
Matt looks at Phil and answers Jon, “Yeah, we are good.”
“Good, I’ll see you guys later,” replies Jon and then Jon walks home.
I walk over to Phil and Matt and see that Matt still seems mad about things.
“Look, those two idiots aren’t worth getting mad over. You have a beautiful wife and you have to be grateful for that,” I say to Matt.
Matt quickly replies, “I am, and I know it’s stupid to get mad about, but I’m just stressed out I guess. I’ve had a quick temper lately.”
“Anything you want to talk about?” asks Phil to Matt.
“It’s just the world, the chaos, and the craziness. It’s just been a lot to handle lately,” answers Matt.
“It’s normal to feel that way right now. If you didn’t, then you’re probably one of the dead roaming around out there,” I reply to Matt.
“Everything okay Matt?” shouts Kylie to Matt from the front porch of Matt’s house.
“Yeah sweetie, I’ll be right in!” shouts Matt as we stand with Matt at the bottom of Shaun’s driveway.
“Let’s just keep an eye on those two idiots and then we’ll kick them out if they cause any problems,” I say to Matt.
Matt nods his head in agreement.
“Okay, go home to your wife and relax a little will ya?” I say to Matt.
Matt says goodbye to Phil and I and then he enters his house.
“He can be a tough stubborn prick sometimes,” says Phil to me.
“Look who’s talking?” I joke to Phil.
“Yeah right, look who’s talking?” jokes Phil to me.
“When I’m right I’m right, and that’s it,” I joke.
Phil chuckles at my joke and I ask Phil, “Full gear tomorrow?”
“Yeah, William told me to be ready for anything tomorrow,” answers Phil.
“Conquerors?” I ask Phil.
“Most likely Conquerors and the dead,” answers Phil.
CHAPTER 11
DID YOU EXPECT THEM?
It is early the next morning and I’m getting ready to meet with Phil before we head over to the Haven.
“So Phil doesn’t know anything about the trip today?” asks Lauren as I tie my left shoelace.
“He said that we are going with William and his group to go after Jeremy and that we could be facing Conquerors and zombies,” I answer Lauren as I finish tying my left shoelace.
I see the concerned look on Lauren’s face, and I say, “I’ll be fine. I doubt William would put his group in danger.”
“I just hate that you are leaving. I’m going to be nervous all day until you come back,” says Lauren.
Lauren’s love and concern for my safety is nice, but it also makes me worry about if something happens to me what will happen to her. I don’t want Lauren to worry about me and I say to her, “I got my full gear on and I’m protected from head to toe.”
Lauren gives me a half smile and replies, “I know but I still worry about you.”
HONK! HONK!
I hear Phil honk his truck horn outside of my house.
I walk with Lauren towards our front door and I grab my katana that is on the vertical stand near our front door and my backpack and rifle that are next to my katana.
I kiss Lauren goodbye and Lauren closes and locks our front door.
“She okay?” asks Phil as I get into his electric truck.
“Yeah, she’s just worried,” I answer Phil.
Phil drives down our main street and we see Brody at the main entrance of Citrus Oaks.
I look over at the guards and see that they are our regular guards and not the two guards that were with Jaws Junior yesterday.
“What are the names of the two new guards that went with JJ yesterday?” I ask Brody.
“Which ones?” asks Brody.
“You know the two short white guys with the buzzcuts,” I answer Brody.
“Oh, Dalton and Dean,” answers Brody.
“You serious? Dalton and Dean?” I ask Brody.
Phil chuckles and jokes, “D and D. Double douches.”
“Keep an eye on them and let us know if they cause
