“Well check with all the guards, and see if they saw anything,” I say to Brody.
“Someone stay with him. I’m going to get some medical supplies and I’ll be right back,” I say to Brody and the guards.
I exit Brody’s house and start to jog down the sidewalk. I pass Bobby G’s house, I pass my house, and I make it to the Medical house.
I enter the Medical house and start gathering up some medical supplies to treat Brad’s face.
As I’m gathering up the medical supplies in the Medical house, the front door opens and Phil walks in.
“Oh it’s only you, just wanted to make sure,” says Phil.
“Brad is here, and he’s all beat up,” I say to Phil.
“What do you mean? He drove here?” asks Phil.
I put a couple more medical supplies in a bag and answer Phil, “No, he was in the back of a truck with a sheet over him.”
I exit the Medical house with Phil and we quickly walk down the sidewalk towards the Armory house.
“What do you mean a sheet over him?” asks Phil as we walk down the sidewalk.
“A white bed sheet, he was under the sheet in the back of a truck,” I answer Phil as we pass Buck’s house.
“Was he alone?” asks Phil as we pass my house.
“Yeah, we found him alone in the back of a truck across the street,” I answer Phil as we pass Bobby G’s house.
“Do you think it was DK?” asks Phil as we walk down our main street and approach the cul-de-sac and Brody’s house.
“It could be, but hopefully Brad can give us answers when he wakes up,” I answer Phil.
Phil and I enter Brody’s house and I see that Brad is still knocked out and sitting up on Brody’s sofa.
“Who was guarding the entrance last night and this morning?” asks Phil to Brody and the other entrance guard Drew that is with Brody.
Brody answers Phil, “I’ll have to check the log, but I think Dalton and Dean were on lookout duty late last night.”
“I’m sure they were, go get them,” says Phil to Brody.
Brody and Drew exit Brody’s house.
I clean up Brad’s face and I see what looks like punch marks on his left temple and around his left eye.
“He looks to have been punched and his nose might be broken,” I say.
Phil looks at Brad’s face and says, “Yeah, I see the red marks on his left eye and his nose definitely looks broken.”
“When did they find him?” asks Phil.
“A couple of minutes ago, Brody called me over the radio,” I answer Phil.
“It’s 8:30 now, so I doubt someone put him there this morning, but more likely last night or early morning before the sun came up,” says Phil.
“But that street is a dead end, unless someone took him in behind the homes and put him in the truck and pushed the truck down the street silently,” I say.
I check to make sure Brad is still breathing and he has a pulse and he does.
“It had to be DK; it only make sense that it was him, but why would he do that to Brad?” asks Phil.
I answer Phil while looking at Brad, “I hope Brad wakes up and he can tell us what happened.”
About thirty minutes go by and Brody and Drew come back into Brody’s house.
“We can’t find them sir,” says Brody to Phil.
“What do you mean you can’t find them?” asks Phil.
“They aren’t in their house or any of the other guard homes,” answers Brody.
“Did you check every home in here?” asks Phil.
“No sir, only the guard homes,” answers Brody.
“Well check every house in here and don’t come back here until you find them,” replies Phil with an angry tone.
Brody and Drew exit from Brody’s house again.
“You think they were a part of this?” I ask Phil.
“Could be, maybe they were put here by DK,” answers Phil.
I think about Phil’s statement, wonder if that’s true, and ask myself, “Do we have a spy or spies in Citrus Oaks? Do we have outsiders giving out information about what we do here?”
About an hour goes by and Brad still hasn’t woken up yet.
“Should we try smelling salts or something?” asks Phil.
“He’ll wake up when his mind and body are ready,” I answer Phil.
“Where the fuck is Brody?” asks Phil.
I think about everything that happened this morning and recently with Jaws Junior, Dalton and Dean, and DK.
“What do you think DK stands for?” I ask Phil.
“What? I don’t know, Dumb Kid?” answers Phil.
I chuckle and reply, “Remember that kid Dale Kingsbury?”
Phil smiles and answers, “Yeah, he wanted people to kneel to him. Kneel to the king.”
“Yeah, that kneel thing lasted like two seconds and then he was punched in the face,” I say.
“I saw that happen. It was pretty funny,” replies Phil.
“Wonder if he’s still alive?” I say.
“I doubt it, I bet most of the people from high school are gone now,” replies Phil.
I think about my time in high school and the good times I had with Phil, Jon, Matt, Shaun, and the rest of my high school friends.
“What made you think of that?” asks Phil.
“I guess the initials DK,” I answer Phil.
Another hour goes by and Brody and Drew still haven’t returned to Brody’s house.
“Something isn’t right, they should have been back by now,” says Phil.
“I’ll stay with Brad, you go see if you can find them,” I say to Phil.
Phil looks at me and says, “I’m not going to aimlessly search around the neighborhood.”
Phil picks up his radio and says into his radio, “Brody, Jon, Matt, and everyone in Citrus Oaks we are looking for Dalton and Dean.
