“Only taking women?” asks Bakari.
“I guess men and women, but we’re looking into a group that was kidnapping women and supposedly taking them to an island,” I answer Bakari.
“I’ll have to look more into that, but were your people taken?” asks Bakari.
“Luckily no, but we’re working with a woman that lost her daughter at the stadium and we’re trying to connect the dots what happened to her,” I answer Bakari.
“Do you know anything about the church that had people dressing up in either all red or all white?” asks Phil to Bakari.
Bakari nods his head and answers, “Yeah, a couple people told me about that church. I don’t go to church personally, but I definitely wouldn’t go to a church like that.”
“They took one of our people and we saved her from the church,, and we took their pastor,” I say to Bakari.
“No shit? What did the pastor say? Did he provide any answers?” asks Bakari.
“He was shot before we could get some quality info from him,” answers Phil.
“Do you know anything about Eugenics or a Eugenics program?” I ask Bakari.
“Man, you guys have tons of questions today,” jokes Bakari.
“We found a book on the pastor and it had names in the book but on the front page it said Eugenics,” I say.
“I’ll have to look into that as well,” replies Bakari.
“I’m sorry to give you more things to look into but we appreciate the help,” I say to Bakari.
Bakari smiles and says, “We are staying busy.”
Phil and I say goodbye to Bakari and Bakari says, “I’ll be in touch and I’m sure my brother will want to see you soon.”
“I look forward to it, stay safe,” I reply to Bakari and then Phil and I exit Bakari’s condo.
Phil and I get onto the elevator and we take the elevator down to get Jon.
“What are you going to do about DK?” asks Phil as we stand in the elevator as it goes down.
“I don’t know, but I’m keeping this walkie-talkie in this bag and away from everyone,” I answer Phil.
The elevator stops and Phil and I exit the elevator.
“He said that he’ll show you that you can trust him, what do you think he meant by that?” asks Phil.
I think about Phil’s question as we walk down the long interior hallway towards Saba’s lab and I answer Phil, “I don’t know, but I’m kind of nervous to find out.”
CHAPTER 14
IS HE ALIVE?
“Ummm Ryan sir, we have a potential problem,” I hear Brody say over the radio as I’m in Bobby G’s house early the next morning.
I pick up my radio and ask, “What’s the problem?”
“There is something across the street and it has your name on it,” says Brody over the radio.
“What is it?” I ask into my radio.
“I don’t know, but it’s something pretty big in the back of a truck,” answers Brody over the radio.
“Where are you?” I ask Brody.
“At our front gate, a couple guards found a truck and something in the back of the truck this morning,” answers Brody over the radio.
“I’ll be right there,” I say into my radio.
I exit Bobby G’s house and walk down the sidewalk towards our main entrance.
“Where is it?” I shout to Brody as I see him standing on a lookout platform at our main entrance.
Brody hands me his binoculars as I walk up the lookout platform steps.
“Across the street,” says Brody and then I look through his binoculars across the street where Jerri-Lynn’s old house is.
I see the back of an old blue pick-up truck and something covered in a white sheet. There is a sign on the white sheet, and it says, “FOR RYAN”
I think I see something move under the white sheet and I shout, “Something might be alive under the sheet!”
I put my binoculars down and say, “A couple of you go check it out, but be careful.”
Three entrance guards exit Citrus Oaks and walk over to the old blue pick-up truck.
I look through Brody’s binoculars and see a guard remove the white sheet. “It’s a person… It’s Brad,” I say.
I hand the binoculars back to Brody, run down the lookout platform steps, and exit Citrus Oaks.
The guards aren’t sure what to do as I arrive at the blue truck and stop and check out the truck and Brad.
I see that Brad is tied up, he has duct tape over his mouth, and he looks to have been beaten up.
“Get him down and get him inside,” I say to the guards.
Two zombies come walking towards me as I stand next to the blue pick-up truck.
I don’t have any weapons on me, but I kick one of the approaching zombies in the chest and the zombie falls to the ground.
“Give me your spear!” I shout to one of the guards.
The guard tosses me his spear, I catch the spear with my right hand, and fire it at the approaching zombie.
The spear pierces the zombie’s forehead and flies through the zombie’s skull and brain.
The guards get Brad down from the truck and I ask, “Is he alive?”
One of the guards answers, “I think so, but I’m not sure.”
The guards and I enter Brody’s house and they place Brad on Brody’s living room sofa.
I check Brad’s pulse and he has a weak pulse. I see that Brad is breathing but his face, mouth, and nose are bloody, and he’s passed out.
“Is he alive?” asks Brody as he enters his house.
“Yeah, just barely, but he’s alive,” I answer Brody.
“Who put that truck there?” I ask.
Brody looks at the guards and then answers me, “We don’t know, it wasn’t there last
