“At the office. Why? What’s wrong?” He looked me over, as if for injury, then looked me over again, presumably surprised I was all dressed up. “You look fucking beautiful.” He gasped, upping my confidence in my outfit a little more.
“I have a date with Cole. Now stop changing the subject and tell me where you were all night and day? You must be exhausted.” I said more firmly. He just grinned at me, like he thought my attempt to be bossy was amusing.
“You been worrying about me, Princess?” He smirked.
“Yes I was worried about you, asshole!” I slapped out at his arm, annoyed he was being so flippant. “You haven’t slept for forty-eight hours!” Tears filled my eyes and I had to fight not to let them fall and ruin the makeup Keira had applied. I looked away from Kyle, embarrassed.
“Hey!” Kyle whispered. His finger hooked my chin and turned my face to meet his. “I’m sorry, Baby. I got wrapped up at the office and didn’t even look at my phone. But I’m fine, honest. I don’t need much sleep to function.”
“I was just worried. You work too hard Kyle, and you take on too much stress. You need to relax more.”
“I’m fine. I needed to find out who that guy following you was. I need you safe.”
“And did you?” I asked, worried. I wasn’t sure I actually wanted to know.
“Yeah. He’s a reporter. He’s writing a story on your kidnapping. He somehow got a hold of police files on you.” Kyle sighed, wearily.
“What? How?” I cried. If he had police reports, he could know details I did not want to be put out to the public, especially two days before I started school.
“I don’t know, but I handled it. You don’t need to worry. I got every file he had on you from him, and Grant has threatened him with a lawsuit if he prints anything about you. Kade’s looking into who leaked the files. Everything’s sorted now and that fucker will not be following you again.”
“You threatened him?” It wasn’t really a question, since it was obvious from his tone and what he’d said, he did.
“I handled the situation. Now stop stressing yourself out and relax. Concentrate on your date, and on enjoying yourself.” He placed his hand at the small of my back and led me through to the kitchen where Matt was baking muffins, and Grant sat at the counter on his laptop.
“Olivia, you look lovely, Sweetheart.” Grant said as he glanced up and smiled brightly. His words made Matt look up from filling muffin cases. He very slowly looked me up and down, then that sexy half smile lit his face as he walked over to me.
“Eres hermosa, Mi Amado,” He purred into my ear, making me blush. The knots in my stomach released a little, and instead it began to flutter as I became very hot and bothered. I just loved when he spoke Spanish to me. I didn’t even really care what he said. It sounded so romantic.
I reached up and kissed his cheek softly, taking in his amazing smell of aftershave and sugar. He returned my kiss with a brief one on my lips, then returned to his task in the kitchen, as I stood trying to calm myself and cool the heck down.
“Where’s Cole taking you tonight?” Kyle asked. I looked up and found him standing near the refrigerator, twisting the cap off a beer.
“I don’t know. He wouldn’t tell me.” I replied with a shrug.
“Where is he anyway?” Matt asked.
“He’s picking me up at eight.” I couldn't help but laugh at the confusion on all three faces. “I know, I told him he’s crazy, but he insisted on doing it properly.”
“Maybe we should do it properly too. What do you say Dad, shall we interrogate him at the door, find out what his intentions are?” Kyle asked as he smirked across at Grant.
Just then the doorbell rang, and I hurried to get to it before Kyle, not wanting him to tease Cole, who I was sure was as nervous as I was. Luckily, Kyle didn’t follow.
I opened the door, and teared up at perfection before me.
“Hey Beautiful.” Cole greeted. He was dressed in dark jeans, a black button down shirt, and a light grey sports jacket. His leather boots shone and he had spent time styling his usually wild hair. “You look absolutely beautiful.” He sweet talked, as he looked me over, just as I did him.
“You look very handsome too.” I couldn't contain my smile at the effort he had made for me.
“These are for you.” From behind his back he produced a huge bouquet of bright yellow roses.”
“Cole! They’re beautiful.” I cried, overwhelmed with his sweetness.
“I know they’re supposed to be red, but the yellow ones seemed more like you.” He explained shyly.
“They’re perfect. Thank you.” I took the flowers from him and inhaled the sweet smell. They were the most beautiful flowers I had ever seen.
“You ready to go?” He asked.
“Yeah. Let me just put these in water and grab my coat.” I hurried through to the kitchen and looked to Matt for help. I had no idea where to even look for a vase.
“Aw, how sweet. He brought you roses.” Kyle mocked as Matt took the bouquet from me.
“Fuck you Ky!” Cole laughed, as he walked in behind me. “You’re just jealous because you know you’d never have thought to bring flowers.”
“I don’t need flowers. My amazing personality and perfect physique is all I need to woo the ladies.” Kyle quipped back and I glared at him, my hands going to my hips.
“Might need to check the ego there a little, Casanova.” I snapped, trying to keep a straight face.
“Shit! You know it didn’t mean it like that, Baby. You’re the only woman I have eyes for, I swear.” He panicked, and I gave in and smiled.
“Go on you two, get out of here before Kyle
