I looked to Matt, but he just smiled and waved me off.
“I’ll take care of the flowers for you, Cariña. I’ll put them in your room, ok?”
“Thank you.” I said, then I took Cole’s hand and let him lead me off to my first ever hot date.
COLE
I didn’t think I had ever been as nervous in my life. My hands were sweating and slipping on the steering wheel as I tried to focus on driving.
She just meant so much to me, and I wanted her to know that. I wanted to show her with the date I had spent all week planning for her.
“Where are we going?” She asked, sounding excited. I understood her confusion, since we were driving in the opposite direction of the city.
“Can’t tell you yet, but you’ll see soon enough.” I chuckled. I glanced over to her, and found her watching me, that breathtaking smile on her face. There was nothing in the world as amazing as seeing my girl smile like that, with everything she had. She looked so fucking perfect in that dress. I found myself fighting not to sweep her into my arms and let my hands roam. But I would never do that, not unless she showed it was what she wanted too.
We had fooled around a little before. I had run my hands up her shirt when we were kissing, brushing her skin, and lightly caressing over her bra, but that was as far as I had gone with her. I knew she needed time, and to take things really slowly, and I was fine with that. Like we had told her the night we owned up to our feelings, we were just happy to be able to call her ours. Everything else would take as long as it took. It wasn’t like I was great with intimacy myself, so I would never push her.
As I turned to pull into the place I had booked, Livy looked around in a frenzy for clues. There was a sign, but it was on my side, and hidden because it was already dark out.
“Cole! Where are we?” She asked as she jumped up and down, looking around her. I just smiled and slowly pulled into the small gravel lot. I climbed out of my truck and rounded the front to her side. She was beaming as I opened the door and took her hand in mine.
“Come on, let me show you what I have planned for us.” I was unable to stop smiling myself. I was so excited to have her all to myself for the evening.
She climbed down with my help, then jumped at me, taking me completely by surprise. I hugged her back as she squeezed the fuck out of me.
“Thank you!” She cried.
“What for? You don't even know what we’re doing yet.” I laughed.
“It doesn’t matter as long as I’m doing whatever it is with you.” She replied, so sweetly. I couldn’t have held back if I tried. I bent down as she reached up on her toes and we found each other somewhere in the middle. Our lips locked and I kissed the shit out of her, trying to show her with the kiss alone how crazy she made me.
I could have stayed there all night, but we couldn't. I had plans and they were time sensitive.
“Come on, we gotta go.” I took her hand and led her across the gravel lot and around the building which housed the office I had visited just two days before.
We rounded the corner and the helicopter sat right there before us, the pilot seeming to be doing some checks on it.
“What is this?” She gasped.
“We’re gonna fly, Babygirl.”
“We’re flying? In that? Really?” She squealed, louder than I had ever heard her before. Maybe she’d been spending too much time with Evie.
“Yep. It’s going to fly us into the city, land at a rooftop restaurant where we have reservations, then bring us back later tonight.” I knew it was an ostentatious first date, but as soon as I saw the idea online, I had loved it. Livy was free now. Why shouldn’t she get to fly?
“Oh my God Cole! You hired a freaking helicopter!” She cried. I worried for a second she was mad, but then a huge smile came over her face, and she started jumping up and down. “I can’t believe it! I’ve never flown before, not even on a plane.”
“So you like the idea then?” I asked, unsure still.
“Like it? I love it Cole! When do we go?”
“We’re scheduled to set off in ten minutes.” I couldn't contain my smile at her excitement. I had hoped she would like the idea, but there had been a fear she would be scared of the whole thing and not want to go. I had a back up plan, to take her to Navy Pier, but it wouldn’t have been anything as special as the helicopter.
She deserved special. Hell, she deserved more than that, but this was the best I could afford right now, and she did seem fit to burst with excitement at the plans I had. One day, when I was qualified and had a well paying job, I would give her everything she deserved.
I would happily spend the rest of my life trying to make her smile and be as happy as she was in that moment, because there could be nothing more fulfilling in the world than making that happen.
OLIVIA
“Oh my god!” I was squealing, just like Evie, but I couldn't help it. I was so invigorated and excited as the helicopter we sat in sped over the bright lights of the city. My heart was pounding and there was a permanent smile on my face, so wide I was sure my cheeks would ache later.
“You ok?” Cole asked through the head sets we wore to block out the sound of the beating rotors over our heads. The sound
