Corum watched it go, almost forgetful of his pain in his astonishment.
Had the creature witnessed his torture (/может/ существо видело его истязание)? Was it trying to save him (/неужели/ оно пытается спасти его)?
Or perhaps this was an illusion (или, может быть, это был мираж; illusion — иллюзия, мираж), like the illusion of the city and his sister, induced by his agonies (как видение города и его сестры, вызванное страданиями Корума; to induce — заставлять, побуждать; вызывать, приводить к).
He felt his energy weakening (он почувствовал, что его сила уменьшается = что силы покидают его; to weaken — слабеть, ослаблять). A few more moments and he would be returning to the plane (еще несколько мгновений — и он вернется в плоскость) where the Mabden would be able to see him (где мабдены смогут увидеть его). And he knew that he would not find the strength again to leave the plane (он знал, что не найдет силы снова = у него не хватит сил, чтобы снова покинуть /свою/ плоскость).
Then the brown creature reappeared (затем бурое существо появилось опять) and it was leading something by one of its hands, pointing at Corum (ведя с собой что-то = какое-то другое существо за руку: «за одну из его рук», указывая на Корума).

It was a dark face and the expression on it was sad, concerned, doomed (темное лицо, выражение его было печальным, озабоченным и обреченным; concerned — озабоченный, беспокойный; заинтересованный). The rest of its body, though in outline the same as a man's (остальная часть его тела = само тело, хотя /и было/ в общих чертах такое же, как у человека), seemed to refuse light (казалось, отклоняло свет; to refuse — отвергать, отказывать/ся/; отклонять) — no detail of it could be observed (никакая деталь его не могла наблюдаться = рассмотреть хорошенько его было нельзя). It reached out and it picked up the board (он протянул /руки/ и поднял щит; to reach out — потянуться, протягивать, вытягивать /руку/) as tenderly as a father might pick up a child (так осторожно, как отец поднимает дитя; tenderly — нежно, мягко, ласково). It bore Corum back with it into the forest (он понес Корума с собой обратно в лес; to bear).

He awoke in daylight and he saw the board lying some distance away (он проснулся = очнулся днем и увидел, /что/ щит лежит на некотором расстоянии от него = в стороне; daylight — дневной свет, светлое время суток; рассвет). He lay on the green grass of a valley (Корум лежал на зеленой траве лощины) and there was a spring nearby (родник был поблизости) and, close to that, a little pile of nuts and fruit (и рядом с ним — небольшая кучка орехов и фруктов; pile — куча, груда). Not far from the pile of food sat the brown beast (недалеко от кучки еды сидел мохнатый человек; beast — зверь). It was watching him (он наблюдал за Корумом).

He put his right hand to his right eye and touched sticky stuff (он коснулся правой рукой правого глаза и почувствовал /какую-то/ клейкую массу; to touch — /при/касаться; осязать, ощущать; stuff — материя; материал, вещество) that must have been the same salve (которая, должно быть, была той же самой мазью; salve — целебная мазь; средство для успокоения) as that which was on his stump (что и та, которая была на его культе).
Birds sang in the nearby woods (птицы пели в близлежащем лесу; to sing). The sky was clear and blue (небо было ясным и голубым; blue — голубой, лазурный, синий). If it were not for his injuries (если бы не его увечья; injury — вред, /телесное/ повреждение; рана), Corum might have thought the events of the last few weeks a black dream (Корум мог бы подумать, /что/ события последних нескольких недель /являлись/ страшным: «черным» сном).
